A stupid rule - granted!
If Jamaica were in Fifa's top 50 ranking it would be no prblem - but they are not!

says on your link top 70, Jamica are 63rd I believe <ok>

And yes its a stupid rule designed to stop unskilled workers coming into the country. Austin probably makes more than the panel who decides who can come in within a couple of months!

FA's criteria for work permit

Work permits will only be issued to international football players of the highest calibre (playing over 75% of their national sides games in teams in FIFA's top 50 ranking) who will be able to make a significant contribution to the development of the game of football in the United Kingdom at the highest level.

<ok>

Not sure what ranking Jamaica have at the monet, but pretty sure Leeds are not at the highest level <whistle>

So far Austin has played 11 games, He has received 5 yellow cards and 1 red so guessing he wont be doing much work so no need for a permit <ok>

1. A player must have played for his country in at least 75% of its competitive “A” team matches he was available for selection, during the 2 years preceding the date of the application;

2. The player’s country must be at or above 70th place in the official FIFA World Rankings when averaged over the 2 years preceding the date of the application; and

3. The application for a GBE must be made by a club in membership of the Premier League or Football League and the player will only play for clubs in membership of those leagues. Competitive matches

Won't be a problem he has played more than 75% and Jamaica are 63rd

Wonder why his application got refused in 2008 when Stoke tried to sogn him then - their ranking was 65. And he had played over 75% of their games?
