Not really mate - Unless the FA have changed their rules. http://stoke.footballblog.co.uk/rudolph-austin-refused-work-permit.html http://www.thisisstaffordshire.co.u...-Scandinavia/story-12515218-detail/story.html
A stupid rule - granted! If Jamaica were in Fifa's top 50 ranking it would be no prblem - but they are not!
says on your link top 70, Jamica are 63rd I believe And yes its a stupid rule designed to stop unskilled workers coming into the country. Austin probably makes more than the panel who decides who can come in within a couple of months!
FA's criteria for work permit Work permits will only be issued to international football players of the highest calibre (playing over 75% of their national sides games in teams in FIFA's top 50 ranking) who will be able to make a significant contribution to the development of the game of football in the United Kingdom at the highest level. Not sure what ranking Jamaica have at the monet, but pretty sure Leeds are not at the highest level

So far Austin has played 11 games, He has received 5 yellow cards and 1 red so guessing he wont be doing much work so no need for a permit
1. A player must have played for his country in at least 75% of its competitive “A” team matches he was available for selection, during the 2 years preceding the date of the application; 2. The player’s country must be at or above 70th place in the official FIFA World Rankings when averaged over the 2 years preceding the date of the application; and 3. The application for a GBE must be made by a club in membership of the Premier League or Football League and the player will only play for clubs in membership of those leagues. Competitive matches Won't be a problem he has played more than 75% and Jamaica are 63rd http://www.thefa.com/TheFA/Rulesand...ewsAndFeatures/2009/work_permits_players.aspx
Well put sir. I got distracted and actually done some work Three months celebrating? Two nights on the bounce and I struggle to handle that these days!
Wonder why his application got refused in 2008 when Stoke tried to sogn him then - their ranking was 65. And he had played over 75% of their games?
