Warnock was asked about Michael Owen. Dodged the question if we would like him or not and side stepped Diouf as well. He wants 1 or 2 more in in the next 7 days. Clint Hill- cagey on that as well but says a lot of teams would be in for him. Talked about the play off final and said it will probably be best for us if West Ham go up Oh and Morning Durham
Only use for me in the Hammers missing out on promotion is its slightly easier to get to than Blackpool. They've also got a bigger ground. So better ticket allocation. Regardless of who wins, should be a good game.
In terms of spending power then yeah it would be better for us if West Ham went up, but I'd like to see Blackpool stick it to them anyway! I'm still really hoping nothing comes of all of this Diouf rumouring though!
Some players who sound like birds..... Robbie FOWLer Chris EAGLEs ROBIN Van Perise Gary Neville (always thought he was a bit of a TIT)
Why would they have to be paying silly wages? All he seems to want is the going rate, just like nearly every other player that's departed under Bates. It's just that Warnock obviously doesn't have very much money at all, so will have to get rid of maybe two of our best players so he can bring in some average ones in three/four positions on lesser wages.
Wickersley, LiD, clearly this is starting to take off. Keep 'em coming. Jerel, are you like one or two on the other sight who have access to priviledged information on how much players get paid? If not, how can you know that Clayton is not already on the going rate?
Like many things in the world, it can be deduced by informed speculation. If he were on the going rate for a decent Championship midfielder (7-10kpw or thereabouts I'd imagine), Bates and Lorimer would be crying about how he owes us one and he's one of our highest paid players. Also because we signed him as a practically unproven youth from Man City, so won't have offered him first team wages when he was 'one for the future'.
Not sure I entirely agree Jerel, but I get the point you're making. If he doesn't re-sign, it will be interesting to see where he ends up. Kilkenny thought he was bigger than the club & more money. Where's he now? Slumbing it at Brizzle. He's really done well for himself. We lost Bradders possibly because he wanted more money & thought he was worth more. By going to Norwich & doing well, he's proven that he was right & we were wrong. We lost Howson because he wanted PL footy now & wasn't prepared to wait. Judging by how he's doing & how we did, he clearly made the right choice. Pity, but that's life. Good luck to the lad.
He didn't think he was bigger than the club, he wanted to stay. Yeah, he wanted more money because he was obviously on League One wages in the Championship. It's no doubt a similar process going through Clayton's mind. And there's no way the potential abilities of those two players can even be slightly compared. Clayton's bound for good things; Kilkenny's a fairly standard short-pass merchant for this division, and nothing more. True about Johnson. I actually said I'd be happy for him to go, based on Clayton doing what he did but better at the start of the season. But in retrospect, he's another we should have kept. We actually lost Howson because we wanted a quick buck from him, not the other way round. Ben Parker has confirmed that, and there was no suggestion Howson wouldn't have kept playing for us till the end of the season if we didn't flog him in order to pay for the wages of galacticos like Paul Robinson and Danny Webber. But still, in retrospect, we could have kept both of them if we had a competent person doing our contract negotiations, and a competent person doling out the wage slips who wasn't living in the 1980s. The same will happen to Clayton, he'll move on and either get more money or better himself when he should be doing both those things at Elland Road. Then we can work ourselves into an excited frenzy about having Michael Tonge as his replacement.
