With hindsight, this probably should have happened in January.

Still don't think he was the problem tbh. But hopefully someone else can get a better tune out of this squad.

Good luck for the future Mauricio; you didn't deserve the abuse you got from a section of our support. And you didn't get the support from the board either imo.

He’ll receive a massive payoff in the region most of us can’t even imagine. Move on.

It's a strange concept. Being terrible at your job to the extent that you get fired...and then being paid a **** tonne of money for having been terrible at your job and fired.

I bare him no ill will, but damn, I can't feel too sorry for football managers that get fired.

Obviously the money helps soften any blow. To quote Del Trotter, "money may not make you happy, but it sure takes the sting out of being poor".

However, money isn't everything. No amount of money justifies the level of personal abuse directed at Pellegrino, nor does it detract from the dignity and resilience he showed under fire.

The Saints job proved beyond him. Let's hope it doesn't prove to be beyond the next guy.

Absolutely spot on. I really hoped something would change in the way we play and that eventually he would succeed. As fans, we too often forget that he has family and close friends to face with the certain knowledge that they know the type of personal vitriol fired down the line at him. Even though his type of job brings with it great public exposure, those closest to people like MP are the ones who take the emotional hit. They didn't ask for it but that's the way it goes, but as you say whilst the pay-off will certainly help in the process, the loss of personal pride and status, that takes a lot longer to recover from. Unlike some of his more famous predecessors I felt that he really wanted to succeed here and prove his worth. In case we forget the great Sir Alex was at one time only days and a result away from being a dot in history at Man U. So best wishes Mauricio, sorry it has been a painful experience, not all fans are blind to the fact that you are a decent human being. take some time out, recover and some day you will succeed.

Fair enough Gary, I do get your point, but it is not really in the spirit of the thread...:)

And to support your line, MP’s letter published today confirms everything I felt about this guy. Top class response to a massive defeat for him.

I’ve said on other posts I think he’s a nice & genuine guy& I’m sure he did his best & the problems were not all his making. I don’t really agree with the comments that he’s been that badly treated (aggressive fan abuse) because failure in this field, which is affectedly what he’s achieved, is I’m afraid, much the norm nowadays & actually in my view, hasn’t been that severe. I do wish him well but like I said, his bank manager certainly won’t have any sleepless nights. And yes, you were probably right that I shouldn’t have posted on here in the first place.

I think he came across as aloof, stubborn and deluded and probably deserved more abuse than he got to be honest. He was barely given a hard time, considering how woeful we’ve been.
Nice open letter to the fans though. Good luck in the future, I’ll be amazed to see him in English football any time soon.

Abuse? I don't think any manager deserves abuse just because they lose a lot.
He may have done a poor job but I fail to see the logic when you say he deserves more abuse than he got. For what reason should he be abused?

This tells me more about your judgement of character than anything else. I think you’ll find yourself in a very small minority with this view.

We definitely have all three of aloof, stubborn and deluded on match days at St Mary’s, but I’m not sure MP2 was ticking those boxes.
