I’m hungry.... Posh fry up tonight..... oak smoked bacon....tomato mushrooms & crispy sautéed potatoes
You’ve proper hurt my feelings. This last two months have probably been the only two in the last 25 years that I haven’t bit my nails. It’s a bigger achievement as Happy shifting 33% of his body weight. FACT.
Not a regular fish'n chip eater in Hull, mainly 'cos I don't live there but the best I've had over the last 18 months have been (1) Lion and Key, (2) Papa's Willerby and (3) Mollie Malone's.
I had my fix yesterday (it’s Saturday here now). Haddock and chips, with mushy peas and curry sauce to dip the chips in, from Chumley Warner’s in Birkdale. Bit of a trek to get there, and not cheap to buy...... but it’s bloody worth it.....
Don't Australian Greaso's serve " Flake" as the only fillet o fish in a service ?. Not known are they for any menu options for any alternative fish selections?.
Just been to East Park Chippy, for the first time ever. Literally queueing out the door, about 10 mins to get served. Medium Haddock and large chips - £6.30 The medium haddock was huge, and cooked to perfection. Big chunky proper chips, not scrappy little things. It was bloody lovely, and can see why its got such a good rep, has sign voted best Fish and Chips in Hull. Can't wait till next Good Friday.............ahem.......next friday looks good to me.
Not sure where you get your information from, but they do have a lot of varieties in the fish shops here, but none of them taste quite like Haddock (but maybe I’m just biased!). The chip shop I go to is a British one and gets his cod and haddock imported, and they also do proper chips, which many Australians don’t seem to like....
As to the source of my experience it stems from having lived in Fortitude Valley & Melbourne for 25 years. I do retract somewhat the comment of there are NO menu aternatives of fish offered, obviously , there would be , Only in my experience it was always Snapper or Whiting or Flake ( shark ) never in all my years have I seen Haddock or Cod offers in OZ. Sorry. Halibut ( Yes ) Trout ( Yes ).
