I've no idea and no inclination to find out if or why respectively. The lesson is simple I think. If you don't want to be an entry on a kill list don't declare war on countries who can put you on one and carry it through. Put it this way, if he had declared Jihad on Israel, would it have been a surprise if he ended up dead? He's a sure fire (pardon the pun) entry into the next edition of the Darwin awards.
