The point, as you put it, was to protect the club's interests.

It doesn't matter what situation we were in, that was Speakman's job. He allowed a flimsy contract situation to endure. It was almost bound to come to this given what we now know, and yet we don't look prepared. Possibly even because he didn't want to deal with it decisively. Possibly because he didnt rate Neil.

But it is on him. He is the man in charge of all these things.

And we currently have ;

No first team manager.
No U23 manager.
No Academy manager.

He's not doing his job properly, and it doesn't matter what enyone thinks of Neil, that is still the case. Apart from recruitment, at which he clearly excells, chaos follows this bloke around.
You don’t write for WMS by any chance?

Can I also add whilst the roles are crucial they are also being covered while we look to appoint new staff. It's not like no one is looking after them

The only ones I know are that Neil was on a one year rolling contract, and that it came with with freedom for Neil to leave for another club at any time of his choosing.

Which could be interpreted as-

Neil wanted to be a manager not a head coach but was desperate to get back in football so he took the job, fully intending to leave for the first half decent managers job he was offered.

He’s not a sexy appointment. He’s a safe one. There are merits to both but some of the abuse / derision he’s getting is ridiculous.
All supporters can do is show their disappointment in the hope that the mediocre appointment is reversed. If not, we will support him for the inevitable short time that he will be in charge. Hope I'm proved wrong of course. Just feel like I've been punched in the gut and had all of my optimism taken away.

absolutely no problem with expressing disappointment. It’s the barrages of “**** off mowbray” etc on Twitter at the moment that just aren’t helpful

Just uninspiring for me. He is just available.

Wanted better but hey go

He is a steady championship level manager. If we’d just been relegated and we’re desperate to go up I’d have said not a good choice.

As we’ve just been promoted and are seemingly looking to a top half finish this season I say it’s a decent appointment. Could have done a lot worse and at least The 2 so called coaches/frightened rabbits in the headlights won’t be sat bricking it on the sidelines making no decisions on Wednesday all being well.

The later point of your post is very true. With mowbray already seeing the players today I would hope for a good response Wednesday
