If we lose Bony and Gomis this window terror , we need a top striker in right away imo .Then he can get up to top speed the rest of the season , instead of the first half of next season if we get him in the summer.I strongly feel this is very important if we lose Bony and Gomis ..

Blackpool had 29 points as of Jan 12th 2012 and thought no problem. They ended up going down with 39 points. We still have a lot to do to stay up. everyone will be strengthening their squads in january. we have to plug our problem areas to or it will be a long second half of the season.

Palace are apparently preparing a £9.25 million bid for Gomis. That could well be tempting for the Board. £40 mill is not a bad kitty to spend on transfers. However its a short window to try and replace our top 2 strikers. It will be interesting to see what they decide to do. Take a risk for the cash or lose out on a potential huge profit??

Only you would sell both Bony and Gomis in the same transfer window :D

With Bony almost certainly going what would it be worth for other clubs to put the kibosh on our chances of staying up?
Taking Gomis would be no bad thing for Palace as a goal scorer (jury still out for me on that) so a fee of around £mn 5 - 7 plus his wage demands would be exceptional. So is the top up for a chance to drag us down the table ?
    Conspiracy theorist? Me? <eek>

Next in the trilogy - By Order of the Palace (the swans will fall)

I can see where you are coming from as £9.5m is about the most we could ever hope to get for a 29yr old striker who hasn't even proved himself with us yet.....BUT

...as we will sell Bony this window the Gomis transfer is a non starter as far as I'm concerned.
We've got someone here who has been training and playing occasionally with the team and is in the best position possible to step up and deliver at centre-forward now. I wouldn't sell him even if he wants to go, I'd tell him he could leave in the summer if that's what he wants (even if that means a smaller fee for ourselves).

Also, even though selling Gomis for £9.5m after a few months is good business, what about the message we send out to our other players and potential new recruits?
To me Bony's departure was inevitable and is good for our brand....Swansea is a club where, if you shine, you can earn a shot at the big time = good message to our players and players we are trying to sign.
Gomis' departure = It's all about the money at Swansea City and we are happy to limp over the 40 point mark every season as long as we make a good profit = bad message.

so we'd be left with Oliviera and Mo Barrou up front? Barrou was originally a striker before we moved him on the wing no? And Oliveira - Portuguese so probably a bit lightweight.

I believe we'd buy in a good replacement for Gomis.
If he's considering a move (having only been here since the summer) and given his attitude in ST Etienne and Lyon I'm not convinced we would get a lot from him. While he's looked good in a few cameo appearances with Emnes and against a league 2 team he did have did go 19 attempts on goal before hitting the target.
If he stays I'll fully support him but I don't see him as a regular goal scorer.

They had 28 points after 20 games, yes. The losing streak they went on after that saw them only win two more games that season. I'd like to think we're a bit more robust than that. I know it's not certain, but I'd say we're better than that sort of record.

It says, "we are striving for something resembling success and we want players that want to be here. If you want to leave, we'll sell you."

At 29 Gomis's value will devalue at a dizzing pace , monthly really. He hasnt really even played for us yet so whoever else we put in will need the same time to get up to speed. And last but certainly not least , 80 million£ a week off the books. Up to 10 Million for a younger striker on half the wages , bank the remaing 30 million and average half a point a game to stay up.Emnes and the new striker have 18 Games to learn our way and prepare for next season .

C'mon Bob. You'd have to be quite the pessimist to think we're not good for another 15 points this season.

You cant hunt any scenario to fit the arguement bob , the Blackpool one was a one off . On the other side of the arguement is Southampton's fire sale last window and look at the half season since .Most scenarios would land in between

Nothing can be certain, especially if we lose our goals from the team anything could happen. why take the chance.

8…Points may keep us up bob.If you want the extreme bob , Derby brought in 7 or 8 players in the Jan window their last season in the Premier and never won another game the rest of the season .
