Seems like, after agreeing a deal... we went back and took the piss. Why am I not suprised. JFK could risk ACTUALLY SIGNING anyone now could he.... more proof they bullshitted their way through the window.

Bafetimbi Gomis Newcastle move dropped due to wages

LYON striker Bafetimbi Gomis has revealed his proposed move to Newcastle fell through due to his reluctance to take a drop in wages.

He claims a deal was initially agreed before the Magpies then asked him to lower his wage demands.

“I had a talk with Newcastle’s coach and we found an agreement,” said Gomis .

“Then there were talks with Lyon. Newcastle then came back to me and asked me to make an effort on wages."
 
I'm not too sure there was "value" in the deal anyway. Paying €8m for a player that is unproven, 12 months on his current deal and nearing the end of his peak always looked strange if recent signing are anything to go by.

I'm not saying I'm happy we didn't sign him but I was never convinced he was right for us.
 
They did not ask him to take a wage cut. Read a proper report. It says he was asked to reduce his demands. Cut what he was asking for. Not take a cut on what he was already earning. Some papers have deliberately said cut your wages as they like to stir the **** for us.

Weather it is cuting wages or benefits, bonuses etc.... we agreed a deal with him (he clearly states this) and then went back and asked him to accept a lesser deal. We don't need the press to stir the **** for us when we have the clowns running our club doing a good job of ruining our reputaion as it is....

That's also true. But the papers made it out to say. Take a pay cut. NUFC had decided on financing his move. Then they wanted more money. So to stick with the original finance they asked him to accept less. Not saying it's good. But sometimes understandable.
But the press love to make a bad situation worse for us.
 
I don't really disagree with anything about this. I think Lyon and Gomis were getting remarkably good deals as it was. I always struggled to understand why we were so bothered about him yet overlooked many others. Arnautovic would, for me, have represented an infinitely better deal. So for me this is a non-story, an attempt to make things look worse than they are. The club is completely accountable, however, for Joe Kinnear lumbering around cluelessly, thus missing out on Arnautovic, Kozak and - utterly, bafflingly, mystifyingly - Lukaku on loan. How they fcked all that up is beyond me.

Unbelievable for me! This would have been a great signing, kept the fans happy, kept money is Ashley's pocket and given us an edge to potentially signing the lad when mourinho pushes his out the door. But we weren't even mentioned as being interested. Surley the club could not have missed the memo saying "incredibly talented young stiker up for loan, sweet f.a. in wages and no massive fee to pay..."
 
Our transfer negotiations/enquirers/dealings were sub-standard on so many fronts, it's just unreal. And there's no light at the end of the tunnel.

Jesus mate, you could say that about any player who's coming to the premiership for the first time. Didn't you sign a hatfull in January who had no Premiership experience? Did, Ben Arfa, Collo, Cabaye and Tiote have Premiership experience? Whatever makes you feel better mate but I'd be pretty peeved if I were you given he'd improve your striking options big time and your DoF football scuppered the move in such an ungentleman like way.
 
Never convinced he was right for us and bullet dodged as far as I can see at that price.
If he actually wanted to play for us he would have signed on the 'reduced terms' whatever they allegedly were.
He doesn't say what the terns were - possibly £60k a week instead of £65k. My heart bleeds for him, poor penniless soul.

You've changed the focus point of the sentence to suit your point.

The focus point is paying €8m. Regardless of other players we've signed without PL experience. He's not anywhere near of the same potential of the others you've mentioned.

Cabaye, Ben Arfa and Tiote are all younger an were significantly cheaper than €8m. As are Sissoko, Gouffran, Mbiwa and Haidara etc.

Granted, Gomis probably would have improved our striking situation but that still doesn't paper over the fact that if Gomis had signed for us it would have bucked our "transfer policy" and using this recent trend in our club I'm not convinced we'd have gotten value out of the deal...

And we had HBA on loan first remember. The club obviously saw enough of him before De-Jong knacked him to sign up permanently before someone else snapped him up.

Think Colo was probably our only 'risk' if you wanna call it that at £9m...worked out ok thankfully !
