I was at the game and they were the better team for 10 minutes or so and had a stonking result the week before, having put 4 or 5 past someone. Bobby Gould scored 3 or 4 on what was his debut and we were a little concerned...not so much in the second half.
I seem to recall that it was on Match of the Day - as it was the days when they only showed 2 matches that was a remarkable fluke
Amazing what you remember. The day that was played I was at a wedding. I remember going with my dad to get the evening news to get the result. Had a pleasant surprise. Couldn't Sky+ it in those days and until pnp posted it, I have never seen the highlights.
Was at that game...stood on the shelf ... forgot that 5 nil flattered them! Brilliant highlights...never seen them before so thanks
Popescu seemed to have been playing in the midfield for this game. Later came back to haunt the Goons in Europe. The commentator seems to suggest that Klinsmann deliberately got Schwarz sent off. Should've been gone for the first yellow. Terrible tackle.
The refereeing was just as bad in those days, Lineker clearly onside, a foul in the wall on the free kick and Gazza kept on the pitch.
