All I can say is I met David Beckham a couple of times when I lived in Manchester and he was polite when we spoke and didn't come across with loads of airs and graces, a very nice bloke all in all but agree with Wize can't stand his missus, but she is the brains in their relationship and he loved her from the first time he saw her.

He is the epitome of the modern footballer and serves as a blatant reminder why football has this ****ty money grabbing image these days.

Beckham is only interested in money, publicity and having the easiest ride he can with the maximum media exposure for him and his skanky wife. However I'm sure his people would tell you otherwise.

The biggest joke is that he's the most capped outfield player in England history, despite the FA allowing his to amass at least 30 more caps than he deserved by giving him 15 minutes here and there against poor opposition when England were already several goals in front.
Never saw him exhibit any leadership qualities as Captain of his country. Again it was all show as we paraded someone famous as our Captain
    Never scored at Wembley
Took every set piece for over a decade with a piss poor return rate
Kept younger players out of the national side due to the FA insisting he was included to get the 14 year old knicker wetters in
Never showed his supposed 'class' against any decent international team, ever, and before people say that he scored against Argentina, let me remind you it was a scuffed penalty, and the rest of the game he was totally invisible
Played Quarterback (WTF????!!!!!!!!!!!!!) in Belfast on yet another night of shame for England and its fans which saw a 1-0 defeat to Northern Ireland
Got deliberately booked for his country so his whore of a Wife could go on a modelling assignment or some such ****

    Still think he's a hero ?

Got deliberatly booked because the next match he would miss was going to be against San Marino or some such so would be available for the next match against some tougher opposition I remember the press reaction at the time.

Sorry Angelic, whilst I don't have any time for her, I believe this sort of comment is out of order on a public forum especially from a mod!

Have to ask why don't people like her?

To me she is successful in her own business. Yes she looks most of the time that she don't smile but what has she ever done wrong?

You forgot his abilty to hypnotise managers of Man U Madrid Milan and England. Probably did go on a bit too long for england but he was up against Aaron lennon who barely made a chance while Beckham frequently put in balls that = goals.

His assist record is on the high side.

England didnt play at wembley for quite a time so he had score at anfield old trafford st james etc for the international team.

Always thought he applied himself well. At times tried to hard as it seemed to mean something to him wearing the countires shirt.

Met him in macedonia, seemed ok better in person than some ex city players have been.

Wouldn't get giddy over it all though.

'Best crosser of a ball i have seen in my lifetime'
Spot on - but as Besty (a true great) said 'he can't head a ball, can't tackle and couldn't go by anyone'.
Beckham's decent but has been the most over rated player on the Planet.

'David beckham is donating his salary to a children's charity in paris. What a top bloke' -
Christ Shiny, he's got you hook, line and sinker.

'Could have signed for a club in London and then it would go to British children' -
Of course he could but how's that going to help Brand Beckham and she who must be obeyed with her 'fashion' business.

'He said he didn't want to play for another team in England due to his Manchester united loyalty'
As above - 'Christ Shiny, he's got you hook, line and sinker'

'dedication to football will gift him a knighthood' - Dedication to one thing - Brand Beckham.

His move to Paris is motivated by nothing other than money.
He's a clever boy and he's got so many believing him.
    Not me.

Nice to read that someone else shares my opinion of St. David, a legend in his own mind!

He also has technique beyond say Barry, Milner, Parker ... He short passing, either foot is excellent. That encapsulates why he has played at the very highest level for club and Country, and in differing top level leagues for the worlds biggets teams. That is the sign of somebody who is highly rated.

You don't need to, there have been periods of his carear where I would look at him as being competitive, and a presser of the ball. Physically if your body does not possess lots of fast twitch fibres you may be able to go past a player, but be unable to get away, so it is better to become a more rounded footballer than a Lennon or Walcott.

A parallel here is Ray Wilkins, again played abroad due to superior technique v general British styled player who cannot adapt to football beyond the UK due to lack of abilty.

    Interesting topic anyways.

People seem to want Beckham to be so sort of corinthian all conqueruing philosopher. He was not Pele, Cruyff etc. but did they very best with what he was born with. An example to kids that hard work does pay off.

With regards to not putting in a shift against decent international opposition...Did he not single handedly obtain qualification to the World Cup 2002 against Greece!? Poor free kick which clinched qualification was it Angelic!? One of the best individual performances in an England shirt for many a year.

And before you say Greece are piss poor - yes they are but they have achieved more than England on the international stage in the past 40 odd years!

Not many on here will do anything for free for kids!

Give 150k a week to a kids charity and you/your Mrs get called a Nicky Hunt for it ... Strange world.

My favourite players are Bellamy and Tevez mind ..

Nope, it was a great free kick

However to put it in perspective

It was also on his own tump
It was in a qualifier, not the World Cup Final unlike the 'legend' would have you believe
It was against Greece not Brazil, Italy, Germany
We would still have gone into a play off against Ukraine had he not scored

Christ one person on here needs to smoke some greenery to calm down. Wouldn't mind a bit of the same "football" intelligence at City. Him and Paul Scholes would keep the ball for a fortnight amongst the duffers at this level. Cracking team player Mr Beckham firstly and without all of that all of the rest would not have followed.
