incomparable.

wiggins achievements in the past month or so stand far and above almost every other british sporting achievement in history. glover and stanning did marvellously well to be the first women to win a gold in rowing but i'm not quite sure they should be made dame's just yet.
 
i don't think wonky was comparing them supers, he was suggesting that wiggo's gold wasn't more worthy of a seperate thread than the rowers gold, and he is right of course.
wiggo's gold is small beer in terms of effort compared to the TDF win, as you say you can't compare that and the time trial gold in comparison to the rowers achievement.
Only Miguel Indurain has won both the TDF and olympic time trial gold before.
 
i stand corrected then max, though i think wiggins becoming the most medalled british athlete of all time probably gives him more right to a thread of his own! <ok>

also, indurain didn't win gold immediately after the tour, so its an even greater achievement. and to do it in his home olympics too...

the guy must be on cloud 9, or even 10!

saying he wants to go and say thanks to the 'real fans' because the prawn sandwich brigade were by the finishing line.
 
I think anyone who goes to an event like the Olympics and does their best and does a personal best deserves the Full Monty of praise. They can't do anyy more than that and if their opponents are better then there is nothing can be done about that.
 
i only got into cycling (road racing) about three years ago after working with a guy who was so passionate about it that i was influenced by his passion and wanted to see what all the fuss was about! i wasn't disappointed - it seems i 'found' road racing at just the right time too!! always watched the olympic cycling and enjoyed it and can remember meeting chris boardman shortly after his gold in barcelona but i never quite 'got it'.

i've been following the TDF on and off since 1987, when Stephen Roche won, that got me completely hooked - the legendary mountain stage, in days when there weren't lots of time checks and technology, when roche came from nowhere to finish behind pedro delgado - phil ligetts legendary commentary <ok>

wiggo is going to inspire a lot of people now

i meant watching the professionals. i do cycle but not too often - just too dangerous! first tour i watched properly was 2009 i think - alberto contador won, cav won a few stages, maybe five. been hooked ever since <ok>
 
The TDF is epic, I've been to a few days while we on our hols out there, it is an amazing experience!
If any of you get the chance, just hop on the ferry or euro tunnel and have a day full of excitement, even in the non mountain stages it is an experience of a lifetime!

Biggest participant sport in Britain. Took over last year from running which took over from fishing. It will probably cement its place at the top now.
It is quite dangerous as you say, thats why I prefer off road where apart from the odd stray rabbit, you don't have to look out for anything else.

one of these days i want to do the camper van special with the family, follow if round for a few days in the alps of pyranees

We watched a hilarious program on French telly one year, they followed a family in a camper who were preparing to follow the tour, the stuff they had in that thing was incredible, but the strangest part was; they parked their camper on one of the Alpine climbs, put up the satellite aerial, sat inside the van watching the race on the telly, when their favorite approached they rushed outside cheered and waved, and after he'd gone past they went back inside and continued watching on the telly?????? Very weird.

I bet they bought the camper van with Ocean Finance! (A very nice man called and now we're in debt for the rest of our lives and we don't really own our house now)
