That's obviously Bart you're referring to there. He had a couple of shockingly nervous games when coming into the side cold. He was a much better keeper than that, of course.

Gazza's distribution is the finest part of his game..!

It is, but we would have heard of this Koeman debilitating mental illness before.

Gazzaniga's problem is his weak hands and wrists. He has good reactions and ok shot stopping. But he still makes the same mistakes he did when he was in the first team.

He is still on a steep learning curve and not getting enough game time, however it has been said that his distribution is the best of our GKs

You can never learn not to have weak hands/ wrists tho.

That would be a start. It's a shame really as his distribution is by far the best out of our keepers. He also has good reflex's and ok shot stopping. It's just a shame he makes silly mistakes and has weak hands. But by far the biggest worry with gazza is he lets one mistake effect him big time.

Presumably someone at the club still believes in Gazza?

You need spare keepers, even if only to play in the U21s, and presumably Gazza is good enough to be third keeper and he is under contract. The crunch will be whether he gets a new contract.

100% of Gazza's problems were mental. He started out with some excellent performances then his confidence drained from him almost visibly. Easy to forget that he's young and in the most exposed position on the pitch. Tough, very tough. I never saw him get to a ball that he didn't stop but I saw him unable to get to the ball thanks to being out of position, unwilling to commit, a few times. More than a few.

If his head is right he'll be terrific.

His best match for us, was that Villa 4-1 home win. His first match, but he's gone backwards since.

He certainly went backwards afterwards but whether he carried on declining is the question.

Of course, if he does have to come back, he's guaranteed the full support of the crowd. After all, look how some people are treating a striker currently suffering a dose of sapped confidence.

The thing is, being a goalkeeper isn't just about having quick reactions and being a decent shot stopper; its about all those things in your penultimate sentence. You think it is as simple as "getting his head right" or a boost of confidence, but I think it is more than that.

Not coming for crosses etc could well be confidence, agreed, but taking up poor positions is just that. You can teach this stuff to a point but there also needs to be an almost innate understanding of where you need to be at any given moment. I don't believe he has it.

    We will see, maybe!

When you consider how Bale is being treated (especially compared with that **** Ronaldo), our fans are intellectual giants and wonderful human beings. Bale has had his car trashed by his own fans!!!

Interestingly, on yesterday's Guardian Football Weekly podcast, one of the pundits mentioned when they discussed the Forster situation that Kelvin Davis in his opinion was one of the better second keepers in the division. He reminisced back a decade or so to when KD was Ipswich keeper, and England were calling in a stand-in keeper, and they ended up taking Rob Green, when in his opinion, they should have taken Kelvin.
