See your point in that, but for time wasting managers do this pretty much every game- last 10 minutes + injury time get littered with subs.

so how long will it take to stop play and review it, its not like the ref will get sent a signal to indicate goal or not is it.

  3. Yes, substitutions change tactics, formations, etc but they are used to break up play in too. Although, I do agree there are other ways of disrupting too such has feigning injury or taking an age to take a throw-in, goal kick, corner, freekick, etc. Managers do use subs to waste time too, whats the point of making a change with a minute left on the clock?

How far do you go with technology? At the minute, it is focused on the goal line but how long until question marks are asked regarding a player being offside prior to the goal being scored? What if it goes back a couple of minutes when a throw-in was given the wrong way? We could end up with more replies than live play!!!

meh sorry no i don't agree. 90% of late subs are made after the board is shown and are designed specifically to waste time.

subs pre 90mins or say 87mins are different but once the ref reports to the sideline how longs left the teams go mad to waste as much time as possible.

    ......

now on disruptive.. go look at ice hockey.. just stick a bloddy tone into the refs earpiece to sounds when the ball goes in. SIMPLE. goal = glory glory man utd for instance.. Howard webb would love that. you never need see the technology in action. The ref gets the signal instantly over his mike. Ice hockey has a big flasher that goes off cos the puck can travel too fast to be seen going on or wide.

Just to clarify, obviously subs made after 88+ minutes are done to disrupt the game. I made such a point earlier, figured I didn't need to repeat it...

Subs made prior to 80 minutes aren't done to waste time though, they're done to change the game - whether the change is to slow down to speed up the game is football tactics, not time wasting tactics however.

I think if replays are used solely for penalty decisions, goals and in-definitive offsides then the flow wouldn't be affected tbh.
