Doesn't bother me really. I can see it may be a good thing if you are playing in a half empty stadium with no atmosphere however thankfully we are not!
It just always feels intrusive to me, as soon as it starts it takes me out of that 'goal eurphoria'. I'm all for progress, but it's never felt like it in my humble.
Hard to answer that, but I suppose you've got to be a certain age to remember what it was like before. For what it's worth I'm 33.
What the actual problem comes down to in a lot of negative mindsets is each individual's musical preference. Whilst I have nothing against Joy Division and actually like Love Will Tear You Apart, the thought of listening to it repeatedly would send anybody to the verge of suicide. For me, I have to be in the right mood to listen to that kind of stuff. It's like listening to the Smiths or Country and Western music - you know that you are going to still be depressed after the music has stopped! At least our goal celebration music is bright an cheerful, and whilst it may not be everyone's cup of tea, it does get people jumping up and down. Yes the goal does that but I think it is kind of cool to see 20 odd thousand people bouncing in unison - that's the key for me - it kinda coordinates the explosive euphoria around the ground.
I wasn't saying Joy Divison was goal music, but having said that a lot is dance music and you'd see that it's played in an unadulterated form by many manc Djs, but this isn't the time to debate the misunderstanding of joy division,
What people call dance music these days is pop music. Manchester as a city has a musical pedigree bands aside I've had many epic nights at Sankey's and The Warehouse Project. If we were to change our music we'd need something neutral I've heard the DJ at Carrow Road and he plays current top 40 cack and ancient top 40 cack. In 10 years time he'll be playing dubstep when we score mark my words.
