Oh get to ****. You're talking of medical research on dead/aborted fetuses (based a heavily edited and doctored video, IIRC) and what I and the poster are referring to is the Q Aanon nonsense of the murdering of babies and children to sate the 'elite' and their supposed depraved practices.
I agree that uncritical acceptance of accusations that align with one's personal prejudices is foolish, and I think it applies equally to us all. There are some deeply disturbing things going on in the US administration at the moment, and spreading obviously refutable lies only serves to cast doubt on reporting of genuine developments. Oddly though, Trump himself has made a career of blurting out the most absurd and inflammatory accusations about whatever target he picks on at any particular moment, and somehow he manages to get away with it. This baffles me, and I'm genuinely concerned about the current political climate in the US, and by extension global stability and security. Such a loose cannon is dangerous.
I have no idea what video you're talking about. Nothing I said is based on a 'doctored' video but on a court case about organ harvesting in abortion clinics. The very thing the tweet you posted was about. Did you even look at the little clip in his tweet? There's no mention of Qanon. A question was asked about organ harvesting in Planned Parenthood clinics and the answer was that it's going to be looked into. It's got nothing to do with murdering babies and children 'to sate the elite'. What are you even on about? It's a straight forward investigation into whether abortion clinics are harvesting and selling organs. They are, or certainly have been as evidenced by the court case I mentioned. The case is very detailed and addresses lots of instances regarding abortion and sale of organs it isn't specifically about just one. One example, a doctor in Philadelphia jailed for murdering three babies born alive after failed abortions. Something else that gets denied. Whatever you're saying has been 'thoroughly debunked' has nothing to do with the video in the tweet you posted. I don't even know what you and the poster are saying has been debunked. I don't think he even knows. Much like the other tweet you posted about stopping Social Security loans to children. It's staring you in the face and you're either not seeing it or choosing not.to see it but since when has Social Security given out loans? That was the first clue that the rest of what followed was utter nonsense too. The loans being stopped are Small Business loans being given to people who are too old to still be alive and children as young as 9 months old which is why Musk added "that's one very precocious baby". I get that this thread was set up to have a bit of fun with memes and to talk about the latest hyperbolic statements etc. but sometimes using a bit of critical thought can separate the wheat from the chaff of some of the more outrageous claims on Twitter. Wanting desperately for them to be true, doesn't make them so.
There may be aborted babies who have had organs used for various purposes... But the right wing conspiracy theories are that people like Bill Gates, and the Clinton's and Tom Hanks (and basically anyone famous who has ever said anything bad about Trump) get together and have devil worshipping parties where they cut up and eat babies. As crazy as it sounds there have been two people here on this forum who subscribed to such beliefs. Not sure if you remember Sisu, he was here on the Liverpool forum quite a bit, and aberdude too kept talking about people (in his case often the royal family) eating babies
So the guy who Trump put in charge of health in the US, Kennedy. Is on a crusade against seed oil and thinks people should be eating lard and tallow instead (despite all medical evidence pointing the opposite direction). “Seed oil is one of the components of processed foods, and all the science indicates that ultraprocessed foods are the principal culprit in this extraordinary explosion, the epidemic we have of chronic disease,” Kennedy said in a recent interview with Fox News host Sean Hannity at a Steak ’n Shake in Florida. Not sure if you're familiar with Steak n Shake... It's a really greasy, fast food burger place... Like super greasy, I can't eat there it's so disgusting. It's completely risible and insane.
I agree completely with your first statement. The second point - There were deeply disturbing things going on under the last administration. As for Trump, he's the master of hyperbole. Why say three cats were found to have been eaten by Haitian immigrants when you can say all the pets in the area have gone missing? His language is crude and vulgar and he has a very limited vocabulary. He's neither a statesman nor a politician. The very things that you or I may dislike about him are the very things that those who voted for him do like. In a democratic vote, he won convincingly so half the country aren't concerned at all about what's being called the end of democracy, in fact they see it as quite the opposite; a restoring of freedoms taken away by the last administration such as women reclaiming their own spaces. He ran on closing the border, deporting criminal illegals, ending dei, stopping men taking part in women's sports and bringing down the price of eggs. He's delivered on all four in a two month period. Whether or not we agree with any of those measures doesn't matter, he is delivering on his promise to the people he made the promise to which isn't you or I. The foreign policy stuff is beyond me and I can't pretend to know what moves should or shouldn't be made in order to achieve peace.
I don't do right wing conspiracy theories, (my name isn't Marjorie) so I don't know anything about what you've said here. Yes I remember Sisu, he believed everything he read as well
There have never been men in any womens sports. He hasn't done anything with that. All major sports here have always required women to have two X chromosomes on tests. There may be some casual recreational sports that have other rules but he would have no power over them anyway. As for prices of eggs. They've only come down from the highest point they rose to when he took office. They're back down to the same price as they were when he took office. They went up in Jan, Feb and then came back down to the same price they were when he took office. Thats like if Tesco raises the price of something from £5 to £10 and then offers it on sale for 50% off. There's no net savings.
I've heard heart surgeons say that butter is healthier than other, let's say, supposedly healthier butter alternatives but lard and tallow??
I missed out men in women's 'college sports'. He's done that. The egg price thing is the same as when Biden claimed he'd created x.amount of jobs when it was just people returning to work after the pandemic. It's politics, much like statistics, you can bend it to make you look magnificent.
Oils high in Omega 3 and 6 have proven to be the best in most scientific studies. That's fish oils, flax seed oil, etc. The longest lived communities in the world tend to eat very little meat at all, and what they do eat is typically fish. As for butter, it's probably better for you than coconut oil or palm oil which are terrible for you despite being plant based. Animal oils in all honesty probably depend on what the animal.ate. if the animal was grass fed it's a lot better for you than if it were grain fed. In the days of the 1940's and 1950's, the era that Trump's cabinet wants to take is back to, animals (in the US) were much more likely to be grass fed. Animal fats would have been healthier then. Nowadays, in the US at least almost all cattle are grain fed, which makes their fat less healthy for us to consume. In Europe it might actually be different because I believe cattle there get more grass.
The US government heavily subsidises Maize production. (Can't blame this on Trump, this has been going on under presidents of both parties for decades). Not vegetables, or wheat, or any healthier products so much as maize. That makes it artificially extremely cheap. (Why so many products contain corn syrup in the US and exported to other places too... We're subsidizing the global obesity). Not only is maize perhaps the least healthy grain... It also turns animals raised on it into unhealthy animals to eat, makes their fat less healthy, less omega 3/6. Maize also is the grain/vegetable which contains the most pesticide. It stores a lot of the pesticide sprayed on it more than just about anything else. If you go organic with just one farm grown product, maize is the one to do it with where it makes most sense. Eat a non organic apple and it's probable no different to an organic one. Eat non organic maize and you're eating pesticide.
I thought the queen and Prince Phillip were only drinking baby blood not eating bits. Ah well I suppose that's why they went downhill so fast according to these people. as for boiling down body parts for tallow, I'm sure that's also not one of their theories.
It's irrelevant to make comparisons with previous administrations - everybody should be judged on the things they themselves do. It's no defence against a crime to point out that others have acted in a similar fashion. As for the democratic vote, Trump wasn't so keen on the process when he lost, so I don't think that stands in his favour. Generally, the US can go to Hell in a handcart as far as I'm concerned (it's already half way there regardless of who is in charge, imo). I'll observe and comment, as is my right - but I have no vested interest in their internecine squabbling (though I do feel sorry for the half of the country that didn't want a bigoted, arrogant man-child for a dictator). However, as the US is the most powerful force on the planet I have a considerable vested interest in its activities on the world stage, and this is where my concerns lie. The man is dangerous, a toddler with a gun.
It's far more than half. One of the reason polls are often so wrong in the US is that relatively few people vote... It's not like, say Australia, where youre legally expected to vote. When you see approval ratings and polls, that's adjust to "expected voters". If everyone voted, the left actually far out numbers the right even in most red states. For the record. I'm against compulsory voting and if you don't vote it's your own fault if someone you don't like gets elected.
Quite intriguing how he bangs on about how he won the popular vote as well (the first GOP to do so since Dubya in 2004), but he actually didn't get over 50% of the vote (unlike Biden in 2020). Infact, he's nowhere ****ing near Biden's 81m total vote - he just increased his own from 74m to 77m. The real story is how Harris managed to collapse from Biden's 81m to 75m. Due to the vagaries of the electoral college, Trump does have an overwhelming majority in terms of the electoral votes and states carried, but I'm flabbergasted that his spokespeople keep rolling up on Newsnight and shouting over any difficult questions asked by the likes of Victoria Derbyshire with a braying, standard, repeated line of 'President Trump overwhelmingly has the backing of the American people'. He doesn't. That said, I appreciate Labour only got 34% of the popular vote but got a 100+ majority, and before them, the Tories got 43% of the vote and had an 80+ majority and called that "An overwhelming mandate to get Brexit done" - but we genuinely have a multi-party system. The US is practically a two-horse race, and if Biden won by a length in 2020, Trump won by a neck last November. That is all. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2020_United_States_presidential_election https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2024_United_States_presidential_election
I actually do vote third party usually. I don't like the two party system... And there are laws that make it hard for a third party to emerge, which I see as anti-democratic. Even though it's a tiny symbolic vote, I hope one day a third party will do well enough to break the stranglehold. Someone has to win... And yes, less than half voted for Trump but this time he got more votes than anyone else.
