Do not see why some people see any significance in this, the matches only last ninety minutes, surely you can do without a drink for that time, you will be wanting waitress service to your seats next. Makes me laugh when you see people pull out all types of food, flasks, hip flasks. Then some queue up at half time, usually late back for the second half, armed with pies, crisps, fizzy drink. Why on earth do you not have something to eat and drink before you go to the match, saving that surely its not that hard to wait till after the match, then get something if your that desperate. The way some people go about it you would think they are embarking on an African Safari, or a day long cricket match.
Obviously you "can" go without a drink for 90 minutes, but why the hell should you?
I'm never going to start a riot, so why shouldn't I be allowed to enjoy a pint while watching my favourite team if it adds to the experience?

I personally wont be drinking beer during the game as Portman Road is usually bloody freezing so I always have a hot drink!
I think Clegg has a very valid point, people should be able to drink responsibly if they want to. The rules around football are different to most sports and whilst football does have a bad name some of the rules on and off the pitch are ridiculous and don't help matters. The amount of drink you see consumed at cricket matches and rugby matches is astonishing!!
Whilst I say all this there is a part of me that thinks this could be a bad idea considering football does seem to have a much higher amount of idiots as fans than any other sport!!
But to prevent the majority from enjoying a couple of drinks at a match because as few might cause trouble is unfair!!

Completely agree, in some cases people might actually end up drinking less if they don't have to down their drinks so quickly the alcohol hasn't hit them yet!
I do agree with what Clegg said about no alcohol in family areas or on 'high risk' matches.
Not sure if the pro drinkers are giving much thought to their fellow supporters, off they will go well before half time, people having to move to let them through. You can bet for all money, they will be late back, move again. Probably they will have a tray with numerous drinks on it, for their mates, in all probability spilling some beer on fellow supporters as they find their seats. Imagine the chaos if we score just after the break, this could be a safety issue. Finally they are in their seats, half way through the second half they are off again, now whats the problem, weak bladder is it.
This probably won't be an issue at Ipswich with so few people sitting on each row.

I'm A grown up and should be allowed a drink whilst i watch football.

How is that any different from having to move to let someone go to the bar to get a coke, you have the same risk of spillage too?
What I loved about living in Holland was that in the main people are left to make their own decisions. Wanna smoke weed, go to a coffee shop, wanna prostitute, go to the reds. If you don't want those things then don't go to those places. There are radio stations that swear during the day (saying bitch and the like) but the attitude is 'Don't sit there and listen for an hour just so you can count how many times the DJ swears so you can write a letter of complaint , just don't ****in' tune in' ....simples. If you're worried about your kids listening then be a responsible parent and make sure they don't, if you can't handle that you shouldn't be a damn parent anyway.
People should be treated like grown adults and have the freedom to choose what they do and don't want to do, not micro managed by government laws.

When reports of fans happy-slapping goalkeepers still make the press, football fans will always be branded hooligans. A small proportion will make the case for a dry ground stick. Dickheads + alcohol = uberdickheads.
If you want a drink, you have to watch a sport where the violence happens on the field of play, like Rugby, Ice Hockey or Bowls.
Cannabis smoking in the stands... now that I could understand! "Did we win, man? Dunno, dude, but it was cool!"
