Only one of the greatest player ever to play for Wales and the Scarlets and now Northampton.....Met his Dad a few times....
Personally, Gerald Davies & Ieuan Evans, to name but 2 Right Wings, would be ahead of him. On the left wing, Ken Jones & JJ Wiiiams would probably rank ahead of him. Gareth Edwards Gerald JPR Merv Pricey Barry John Alun Wyn Roy John Cliff Morgan Phil Bennett Etc
Shane Williams definetly ahead of North I'd also take Dafydd James too - hugely under rated player. Then you have the likes of Jonathan Davies, Scott Gibbs, Alan Bateman, Henson, Shanklin, Byrne, Neil Jenkins, Rob Howley, Scott Quinnell etc
To be honest Valley, there were some great players in the 50s - Bryn Meredith (3 Lions tours, 8 Tests), Courtney Meredith (played with Bryn in 1955 series in SA - series drawn 2-2), Rhys Stephens, Rhys Williams.... In the 70s you could include also the ‘Shadow’ - the great Dai Morris, not forgetting Bobby Windsor. George is a great player - but not in the Top 25, let alone Top 10
Don't forget lads Rugby is much tougher today and some of the players mentioned would never get a cap into today's rugby .....GN have proved himself in the modern game and would outclass most players mentioned in yesteryear with speed and fitness....
On the other hand Dai, just imagine how much better those players would be with today’s conditioning and fitness regimes - not forgetting that they would be full time Professionals.
Who says they would make the grade, We would never know but it was a different era where it was part time as most of the players were i full time employment. Today's players are much fitter and better trained......
