Jim Radcliffe of INEOS would be the preferred bidder, a lifelong United supporter and someone who stated only months ago that he would buy the club if it were for sale, but he then qualified that by saying the Glazers had told him the club was not for sale - how quickly things change.

The downside is that we could well see Beckham as the public face of a bid from the Qatar sovereign wealth fund. No arab owners please.

He also said the Glazers were asking too much.

It's going to be upwards of £5bn+ I can't see Radcliffe buying it on his own. It would be a consortium imo.

The only ppl buying it on their own probably would be arabs. Or an uber rich yank. Elon Musk anyone? I dread to think.

I'm reading that Apple might be a in interested party. All rumours of course, but better some big corporation than an oil nation's sovereign wealth fund

The trouble is that anyone who just got pocket money will be touted by the media as a potential buyer. A long wait for some clarity I suspect.

When you're talking a possible £5bl+ you are not looking at "pocket money".

People with this kind of money to spend are usually pretty good at what they do and treat an investment in a way that will make them more money (as in improve it).
Possible/probable exceptions to this are the Saudies who have money to burn but usually use it to raise their profile, just look at what the City owners have done to the area around the ground (plus what they have done to/for the club). These people have a reason to make their investment succeed and it isn't to make more money from it.

    Spot on, Diego!

I personally don't think that the full on campaign to get the Glazers out have thought of the other options on the table. There is not a single entity that will take on Manchester United without a huge bank loan of some kind. And the sole reason why they will even attempt to acquire the club will be solely for profits and nothing else. We kid ourselves that this is not 100% the case when the money is not oil money.

The UAE countries have very different goals with their investments which is to sports wash their own societal norms which we tend to deem as inappropriate on this side of the world. They use money as a vehicle to buy the west and gain leverage. They obviously don't give a sht about profits, so they throw all the money at foreign sports to systematically grab power and control over the foriegn narrative. I personally deem their investments in football very dangerous but all the footballing bodies have been bought out at this point. The sad reality is that an investment to buy a club as big as United will most likely come from oil.

@glazerfodder Apple would be a massive win if that were true. The impact of Apple acquiring Manchester United would fundamentally change the game. If Apple theoretically buys United, you can expect Apple to push for United owning all its media rights. It will fit perfectly into their overall media strategy to enhance Apple TV+. At that point, the likes of Disney and Netflix may start to seek the same path. It would be a massive coup for Apple, and one that will greatly benefit Manchester United - but I think that it will have a destructive impact on the lower teams across the football leagues.
