i dont know about others on this board ,but i really used to love glastonbury was a regular attedant in the early 80s and there was allways something interesting too see beyond the big stages,then like a lot off
us i married had kids etc,
so i followed on tv, and still generally found something different and challenging to listen to and watch, but this year i was bored stupid, other than alanis morrisette-who i was nerver big on, it was just full off 6th form politcal activism from trustafarian kids from camden town, thank god it takes rest next year, and evis and his darling, can have a rethink,

The whole thing has always attracted the progressive type of person, and it’s been a bit edgy, and whilst I love my music and have attended quite a few concerts at various venues over the years, Glastonbury has never appealed to me. Maybe it’s because I’m not a fan of camping ?

I do find it slightly ironic that people who want open borders in this country are safe and secure inside Glastonbury’s multi million pound perimeter fences !

But this year it just seems an event where more hate speech and division can be spewed out and it could have been prevented by not booking these ‘bands’

I really hope that Kneecap and Bob Vylan get what they deserve. It’s good to see the latter have already had their US Visas and an American tour due later this year cancelled.

I’ve never been, but followed it from afar, just never into crowds etc, loved the music though. Recently I have to say my feelings are just like yours, maybe it’s just me getting old, but it’s got to the point that I deliberately avoid the coverage now. It feels mainstream, a bit plastic, a lot of old middle class wanna bees,

Traditionally it’s always been controversial, a bit edgy, it’s meant to annoy oldies like me. That doesn’t bother me too much, I want our youth to be a bit rebellious. I just think it’s become too expensive, too mainstream, too middle class and a bit too full of itself.

They knew the reaction they’d get, so obviously have judged the backlash would be worth it.

Ultimately we know these events will be edgy, it’s what makes them interesting, if your going to broadcast them live there needs to be a method of editing them, ie a couple of seconds delay so stuff can be edited out. Or we just have to accept these things will happen, deal with the culprits quietly, don’t give them the oxygen they seek, but please don’t pretend they’re unexpected, they aren’t, I’d be more surprised if they didn’t happen.

Another thing that’s been overlooked or forgotten is Bob Vylan apparently saying or rapping on stage ‘I hear you want your country back, well you’re not ****ing getting it back’ or words to that effect which I think most people would also find very offensive

I’ve no problem with that tbh, I grew up with, and loved, punk. Look at some of those lyrics. Art is supposed to challenge, push the boundaries. I don’t agree with their sentiment, but that’s kind of the point. It teaches us to be tolerant of people with different views to our own.

Where it crosses the line for me is when it encourages violence. Being able to peacefully air different views imo is healthy.

I loved punk too
I just think there’s been a step change with this
Protest is one thing, but hatred, racism and asking for people to be killed is quite another

Loved Lordes set. Bowie told us years ago she will become great and thought she was excellent. Closed part of the site to prevent crushing in the Woodsie.
Loved Alanis Morrissette.
Lewis Capaldi even though not my sort of music chocked me to make his comeback there on the stage it fell apart. Like I said not my sort of music but he’s a very, very talented singer.
Loved Snow Patrol.
Pulp, what can you say other than **** me Jarvis you’ve still got it and know how to play the crowd.
Only disappointment for me was the three pyramid headliners. My wife loves 1975 and tbh they are ok, but he is one bellend.
Prodigy gave what you expect, and great band to close down the festival. But why put them on second stage??
liked Inhaler who their fans apparently call people like me U2 Boomers as it’s Bono’s son. So was expecting him to have a view like his old man. Yes do I care no. If they want to use their stage time to say things I just don’t listen.

Also Angelic, it pisses me off that people complain about feeling safe inside that wall barrier. Do you really want to go back to times when The Levellers had 300 thousand crammed into a field. It’s health and safety reasons that’s all. Nothing to do with politics and immigration so should not be mentioned to air views.

I look forward to watching Glastonbury every year, being of a certain age I loved Rod Stewart and his show, super live fun, my personal favourite piece was Saturday night, I had a couple 0f Stellas and tuned in to Neil Young and the Chrome Hearts, all the old hits, for me it was fabulous, I want it to continue, sure there are some idiots, sure some controls are needed but life is life, we are where we are.

I have always enjoyed and will continue, hopefully for a while yet, changes,tastes develop and differ but long may it reign within civilised boundaries, I am a ancient old git but I love it.

I was there, it was the biggest crowd I have ever been part of. Also on the same stage was Senser. That was 1994. Both bands were, and are political and sing political songs on stage, politics has consistently been a feature of Glastonbury, and the festival itself started as a benefit for CND - The festival was and is political.

Bands should be free to air their views as they always have.

this was the only set I watched more than once and all of it!!!
1975 couldnt understand the hype!!!
Prodigy always something to think about.. dont dislike them

yes that wall.... it is a barrier to keep people out ... before it hundreds used to "break in" and licence believe it or not is not a automatic granting from the authorities
the cost of staging it is £'s millions.... I have been behind the scenes and there is barns full of "stuff" ... 1 barn /yard is just full of drums ... not musical for rubbish a lot repainted each year!!!!!! free ticket anyone!

Nobody knows how many were truly there, but what can be known is that numbers watching the Levellers were massively in excess of the total numbers of tickets sold for the festival. A hundred thousand at least got into the festival without a ticket.

That "break in". Locals and travellers offered services (ladders, tunnels, and taking over entrances/security) for a nominal fee to get you in - Tens of thousands did so.

My first was 1971 as a 10 year old and have been to too many to count. Many are a blur. It has evolved to become nothing like what it was. Still a fantastic 5 day party though and I would defend the freedom of speech the acts have providing it does not encourage violence. In the late 70's when there weren't any Glastonbury's Micheal used to put bands on in a cowshed on the farm holding maybe 200 people. I saw Hawkwind, Ginger Baker, The Only Ones and a few others, great times

I went there to the first one slept in the car cant really remember much though............... "was wearing half decent clothes" though ... reason went was, picked up a couple of liverpool lasses thumbing it on the Friday night stayed over on the Saturday and went home about midnight....... to be honest, although looked at the wiki for who played none sort of rings any bells of actually "I can say I enjoyed the....? " it was just good fun and unplanned remember didnt eat a lot and what we did consumed most of the money we had between us .............. I think mine sweeping was source of most alcohol/ liquid! RUINED A PERFECTLY GOOD SHIRT THOUGH...........................
