Giroud is a good striker. However, in order for our team for reach full expression and the chances we generate to be converted at a higher rate, I think we should be looking to upgrade, with Giroud providing more than adequate cover.
I'm happy with Giroud for now. He is a workhorse, has good link up play and most importantly scores goals.
I think I know some arsenal, citeh and spuds fans that might disagree with you I like him, always have (alongside Ramsey ) think he's just a bit inconsistent, has a bit of a nonchalant (French) atmosphere about him at times (but paradoxically is a work horse), but he often has moments of absolute quality which show he is potentially a top striker, who just needs to iron out a few kinks in his game. Happy with him as our first choice, however we do desperately need a back up, ba would have been so perfect for us it hurts.
A) who could we realistically get that would be an upgrade? B) Giroud is scoring goals - that's all you can ask from a striker. He actually contributes more than alot of 'world class' strikers. His link up play around the box is great, he's an asset in the air (defence as well as attack) and he chases down defenders. I'm of the opinion that he needs sterner competition that can motivate him when he hits an inevitable slump. But I see no reason why fans feel he's not 'good enough' for us.
What a weirdly worded poll Options should be A) Buy a better striker for 1st choice B) Buy a 2nd choice striker C) We're good
One thing i will say about Giroud is that he seems to be a good guy to have in the squad, he seems popular with the team, meaning morale is at a high. Compare this current squad to the one we had a few years ago, all the money grabbing ego's are out of the way, there seems to be real camaraderie with this bunch.
Ok, if he keeps up his current rate he's currently on for 38 league goals this season (Henry numbers), but i realistically don't see him getting past 18. 25 in all competitions is his max i reckon.
25 in all comps would still be a decent return, especially if like last season we spread the goals around the team.
We don't have any other consistent scorers who are fit though. I can't see Ramsey keeping this up all season.
A good PL striker scores 1 in 2. They're hard to come by. Realistically you're hugely unlikely to find someone who scores 25+ per season consistently in the PL. Rooney certainly doesn't. The list of players who have scored 30 is incredibly short.
I agree with B but as for A, Luis Suarez? It's not that unlikely, the man went public in the Guardian, saying that a certain team that had qualified for the CL (us) was interested in him and he should be allowed to go there.
Its 5 in 6. Why are so many people getting it wrong???? Youre arguing for a player and giving wrong "facts" to back it up. Makes you look unreliable. Here is a link to the correct stats http://www1.skysports.com/football/player/63324/olivier-giroud
Any update on his injury? and how long is carzola out for ? As for giroud, fair play to him as he got ridiculed at times but has shown inner belief in his game and with ozil and carzola he will be challenging for the golden boot.
Arsenal with Giroud: Loads of teams goals, a good proportion of which scored by Giroud. Arsenal with Suarez: Loads of goals for Suarez, fewer goals altogether, not to mention Suarez's idiotic behaviour affecting the whole team. Giroud is the ideal striker to link up with and provide goal scoring opportunities for our world class midfield, and a good chap. Suarez is an idiot. Pity we couldn't have brought in Benteke or Ba this summer. Lukaku would have been a great acquisition a season or two ago when he was up for grabs.
Rooney CAN be a team player if he's touted as the star man. I'd take him but that'd mean someone in the starting XI would have to make way.
