A TOP class centreback would be nice but adding M'vila would make us alot more solid. I would love Hummels at Arsenal. He would be perfect for us. We could also hijack spurs bid for Vertonghen
I really wanted vertonghen at one time but don't want anyone who would prefer spurs to us...though he does seem like quality.
This one looked certain for a while now and i'm glad its all wrapped up. M'villa to sign and maybe a move for Vertonghen. M'villa would be a great addition and sure up our midfield (the option to play a very combative midfield in M'villa, Song, Arteta/Diaby/Wilshere). Vertonghen i have been calling to be signed for a couple of seasons and i really do think he would be a fantastic addition to the squad. It annoyed me with the whole "i want to go to spurs" thing, but i'd still take him if we can steal him from the spuds.
Vertognen isn't that good... granted he's a million miles better than Squillaci, Mertesacker & Djourou - but still, he's not that good so don't be expecting a rock solid defence with him in there because it won't happen
Thats what i was thinking. Throwing Mertz on the scrap heap after half a season of playing, getting better then getting injured. Hopefully he will feature for us next season and do better.
Mert is a fantastic defender. He has his weaknesses (pace for example) but overall he's a great player and good option at CB. Vertonghen is easily better than Djourou and Squillaci though lol and imo he would be fighting for a first team spot with Mert, Verm and Kosc. We would finally have 4 top options for CB. On top of this Vertonghen is a utility player and can cover the fullbacks and DM. He'd add to our squad strength and be a good signing. No i don't expect he would come into the team and all of a sudden we will have a solid defense and never conceed. But no player can come in and do that - it's about our style of defending and how the team work overall. Thats a coaching issue - as far as quality is concerned - Verm/Kosc/Mert all fit the bill as does Vert.
Hopefully we can get M'Vila and a very good attacking playmaker. Then a good Pre season to kick off the new season for us.

Sorry folks, Mert is a turd. Had similar arguments with people in the past about Cygan & Senderos... they lack key attributes to succeed in the Premier League i.e. they are pussies and have the turning circle of an HGV
Once again Wenger appears to have prioritised 'getting the right deal' over getting the right player. Dreadful signing for AFC
So have Senderos and Djourou - albeit Switzerland but they were/are a good partnership for the Swiss.
