Doubt that - he was out of contract - usually the plaintiff would receive damages to reflect loss of earnings - but not to be re-employed. I would like to know what specific evidence lead to the decision by the tribunal ( not just the say so of one person ) IF at the end of it all the Club is guilty - fair enough - but I'd like to say that I hope that Mc Cammon has a clear conscience regarding the value of his footballing contribution at Gillingham FC......................... ............... I have had to delete a huge amount written at this point - I am so angry - for several reasons and I am likely to print something subject to libel if I'm not careful. Who was the person who racially insulted Mr.McCammon ? If it was Hess then he should be sacked on the grounds of gross misconduct - that might go some way to saving some face. If it was Scally - then I'm not sure what could happen ( The nice men at the FA are bound to throw the book at the club ) - could the situation cause an implosion with Scally going and taking the Football Club down with him.If we're lucky we may yet find ourselves playing in the Scottish 3rd division. Oh well I hope to see my team for one last time at Dover tomorrow - I'm off now - have an appointment with the Samaritans. Wish me luck.
Looking at the Guardian article the club is guilty of "colluding" to sack MaCammon, which implies that the entire management system at the club is a fault, Hessy and Scally included. This is a sad day for the club and for football.
BSG - I agree. In my opinion that Guardian article is pretty damning of the circumstances by what McCammon's solicitor has said. Save people looking back...http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2012/jul/30/footballer-mccammon-wins-racism-gillingham?
hear hear always...agree totally the amount of publicity this is now getting from all over the press etc is only going to damage our name and most of all the club ! all i can say is if this was a white player...would we be having this conversation ????? i can see mccammon smirking already whatever the real story was !!!
Wycombe fan in peace. Cant believe what ive just read re this case. If the Gills choose not to appeal I dont see anyway that your manager or chairman can keep their jobs. Im sure your ground like ours is kitted out with loads of 'Kick Racism out of football' advertisements (rightly so!) so it would look pretty bad should either Scally or Hess be pictured near them. Hope you get it sorted! all the best for new season
Oh come on, lets not stick our heads in the sand about this, the club was found guilty. Our anger should be directed at the club and those who allowed this outrageous act to happen not at the victim and have let us all down. The tribunial has seen all the evidence and would be neutral in any decision.
heads in the sand !....so your saying every court verdict is 100% correct BSG ?...DO ME A FAVOUR !!! at the end of the day racism is a big big issue and our justice system, because of whats commanded and set out to be making an example...will always be in favour of this outcome be it true or false. i'm sorry but thats the way i see it !
McCammon said the black players were made to come in and train when it snowed but the white players never. I don't think Scally saying "well we was worried we might lose the white players in the snow, with the blacks we didn't have that problem" went down too well with the judge.
We live in a land where democracy rules and the right to be tried by your peers is the way. A fair court found the club guilty, bottom line. The issue about Mccammon having a clear concience regarding his footballing contribution is an ENTIRELY different issue (and one that risks clouding the real issue!). From the another club's fans point of view, your opinion reflects very poorly on your club. BSG is right, you should be angry at the disgraceful actions of some who represent your club, not the player.
No I am no t saying that every decisions is 100% correct but until any appeal is undertaken and the decison overturned, legally the club is in the wrong. In the same way I can ask you if you are saying that every court decision is always wrong. I have to admit that I had my doubts over McCammon's claims and the evidence that was presented by the press but frankly we have to have some trust in the legal system. Trust me I an just as angry as everybody else, but I don't see how directing my anger towards McCammon, despites my misgiving about him, helps.
I can remember at the Crawley home game last season, when there was an exchange of words between a fan in the Gordon Road Stand and a Crawley player, Dean Howell. Most of the ground including myself would not have heard that exchange, accept those within that area of the GRS....http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/17485818 The allegation was a racist remark and that uknown fan was rightly lambasted, even by those that never heard the remark. So I do not believe any of us should be burying our heads in the sand, regardless of what you may personally think of McCammon, the tribunal has found in his favour. Which fans need to remember bodes about as well as that remark from the GRS.
BSG - in my post I said that I was angry for several reasons - to elaborate - I ' believe ' that there was no smoke without fire - whilst I am not impressed by the way that McCammon has the nerve to extract more money for nothing in terms of footballing contribution - I suspect that the club has tried to dismiss the 'services' of one of its' employees in circumstances that have gone terribly wrong - and that whilst I don't believe that Scally / Hess etc were / are racists - their less than professional manner in dealing with McCammon left them wide open to such a claim. Scally, for a shrewd businessman has 'allegedly' ( upon the tribunal's findings ) got it badly wrong - and the implications ( not just financial ) for the club could yet be serious.
I am really angry by the outcome of this case, I don't want to say too much regarding it though. I am worried what the outcome will do to the club, Will Scally have to stand down? Will Hessenthaler lose his job? How much of our budget is gone? What this is going to do to the clubs reputation? And finally, will players reject to come to the club because of the outcome? We have had so many black players in the past and have never had a problem so why now? It is all questions at the moment and no answers.
Funny how Mr McCammon chose not to air these claims until his contract was up and he realised he wasn't getting a pay off. The terms "spilt milk" and "crying over" spring to mind.
Yeah I have a feeling he is a bit bitter and twisted. We all know that he has been known to have a bad attitude.
Devonblue - thankyou for your interest - you are entitled to an opinion about me just as much as I am permitted my thoughts about the footballing contribution of one of our players. I don't think my opinion clouds the main issue. I wouldn't expect you to have read some of the posts that I have written on the McCammon issue - otherwise you would know that I have opened with the statement that ' there is no room for racism in any aspect of life ' Yes, my anger is directed more towards my Club ( I have slightly elaborated on the point in a later post in this thread ) - angry, not because I believe that the club's chairman, ex-manager or other employee is a racist - but they have probably gone about the business of dismissing McCammon in a manner that has left them wide open to such a damaging claim.
Just gone on facebook and noticed that we is on my friends list as I added him ages ago, seems to be really happy with himself, must be a big achievement for him. By the way he is coming off my friends list now. I am not posting anything on his wall either like some people have done
