Cracking win considering we had to put out a very makeshift side. Interesting to see Oli do well for the first time in God knows how long. Maybe we have to permanently threaten to release him for him to do well?
Also, Shrewsbury got a last minute equalizer against Oxford, meaning we're just a point off the play-offs!
great result gills, plus something else good may come out of it also...some team might buy dennis oli now credit to the kids, all seem to be coming good at the right time
Just got back from the game, Dennis Oli comes on, I think Oh! No...WTF. Then he scores, now I know why I'm not the manager I have to say it he was the difference - I will wake up in a minute, I must be dreaming, did I just say Oli made the difference
Ha ha Roy ....There is one thing that is certain in football....Its unpredictable. !!! Oli was top drawer tonight > Hess has had his critics me included and you have critisised Oli. All the last few games prove is that we know didly squat about football
Yes, have to agree mate. Eating my words tonight and glad to be with three points. I guess you and me will not be taking over from Hessy any time soon. TBH I would not have even let Oli have stepped foot on the pitch - like you say 'we know didly squat about football' - at least we put our hands up though and admit it, now where is Lenny?
Well I have to say I am surprised, but very pleased, by Oli's showing tonight. It's something he hasn't done anywhere near enough in his time here. I really never imagined that I would say this but "well done Oli". Apparently the average age of the squad after Richards went off was 22. Well done to all the lads who have come in recently, keep it up boys. Good to see Spiller back too. I would also like to wish Richards a full recovery. If we carry on losing players at this rate though I can see my 4 year old son Being called up. Lol. Seriously those I hope that all our players come back in good time and when they're ready. It would be disasterous to lose anyone unnecessarily. UTG
You should now make the play offs or better still an automatic promotion spot. Hopefully you won't get any more injuries
Have to say well done Oli! He changed the game, like everyone around me when he came on I though WTF, then HE scores a very good goal, he was involved in all three in one way or another, hats off to him as he has had a lot of stick of late, and has been told he is going but came on and turned the game. Impact sub or what? The lads also did well, and as has been the norm Jackman had another good game. Very good win, Not sure why theY took Mcleod off as he was causing us problems, maybe the Crawley deal was on their minds. Another tough game Saturday lets hope we get a few players back fit. UTG!!
So many good performances last night but the one that stood out for me, putting to one side how Oli changed the game, was Ashley Miller, got muscled out of the way so many times by their number 21 but at the very least deserved a goal.
My take on the game in a few short and easy to follow steps. So proud to be a Gills fan tonight because.. Our future looks promising because... Davies and Essam in particular were fantastic however... They weren't really up against much because... Barnet, in my opinion were shocking, as well as... Their number 17 (lanky SOP at the back) was.. The worst player I've seen at Priestfield this season. Okay I can't keep this format up. In all seriousness though, very proud to be a Gills fan today especially due to the fact that we were very much under strength. Our main threat came from our full backs and even though Charlie was virtually on one leg at the end, he still managed to hobble up pitch and tuck the 3rd goal away like a pro. Special mentions to the above young centre-backs, Miller who worked the channels extremely well, and with the game time I feel can only get better, and our man Oli who exceeded expectations and was involved in all 3 goals. I'm in the Rainham End but still somehow managed to miss the incident that resulted in Richards' injury. Can anyone shed any light? The bad thing is that I heard something instead...hopefully not the leg
Tom Tom - it appears to be a mystery what happened, most Gills supporters missed it. I had direct clear line of sight of Richards from the Medway Stand and just saw him go down but did not see what caused him to fall. I just wondered if he fell awkwardly at first. Although McLeod was near him. I think everyone's attention was elsewhere, I did see one suggestion of an off the ball incident, however, I hasten to add nothing what so ever to support that.
After the game last night I did an article for those interested...http://www.gillingham.vitalfootball.co.uk/article.asp?a=275337
On this showing.....and in football, you're only as good as your last game........which was a blinder, so yes. More points for Windy whose pressing up the ladder too now.
I did see what happened !!! I noticed they were winding each other up. It looked like the ball was going to come over Richards grabbed hold of him to check any run and their legs looked to get tangled to me. Looked fairly inoccuois (not sure of spelling) at the time dont think there was intent.
Well done to the boys. I was very sorry to hear about Richards breaking his leg. I am so impressed by Essam, i think he is a real find and we must keep in before word gets round. Davis also did well, as did young Miller who reminds me of Freeman. Lee and Whipdale finally look like the players we had on loan last season. A special mention has to go to Oli who did fantastic, we have all mocked him but finally he has delivered.
Yeah Never thought I'd hear myself say this... but Oli was man of the match! Came on at start of 2nd half and completely changed the match. Brilliantly taken goal, and then involved in the other goals. Hats off to you Dennis... but I'm afraid you're still firmly behind Kuffour, Tomlin and Kedwell in the pecking order!
Hoadie - hurry up and get Saturday's match thread up, we need to start talking team selections for Crewe, I just don't get much time on match day itself. brb
