make no mistake, accie are not the side they were last year. they lost most of their best players, and their defence was there to be attacked today. time after time there was space to be had if we could get the ball wide, but whelpdale and rooney both kept coming in and congesting the middle, making it easy to defend. i thought we worked hard pressuring them in their half for most of the game, but we looked off the pace in possession: first touches a tad too hard, passes misplaced or overhit.

im going to single out rooney today, because with respect, he was diabolical. he kept falling over for no good reason, kept drifting inside and cramping room, and his brain just doesnt function. i remember he came short to take the ball of fuller when barry had a good 25 yards to run into, and there was the time in the 2nd half when he couldve played in joe martin in their area, but cut inside and underhit the layoff, meaning what was probably our best chance of the game was wasted. and he was a bit lucky with the penalty, even though it was very well placed

someone please make that boy think!

Rooney needs to develop a bit more, he does still have potential, but it is about time he shows his best,.

I think you're being VERY unkind towards Mr. Rooney. I thought he showed great composure and maturity, at a time when he must have been feeling great pressure.
He reacted in his customary, calm fashion and gave the ball a good kicking - and of course, picked up the yellow card that IT deserved. Don't worry these matters wont come back to haunt us later in the season !
