More likely it was the linesman but you may be right.

thank you for that smug, was starting to think i was the only one who had seen this...a few seem to have cut wyke a lot of slack as he has scored a couple but as i said, he seems capable IF we have players who can play a pin point ball just in front of his feet/head for him to run into.

look when gooch broke out with the ball, only one attempting to keep up with play was maguire, wyke did his normal plod along trying to look interested, sorry but he could and should be into double figures now with the chances going into the box.

I thought that but Wyke just let the ball go in. Made no attempt. As I said, if O9 wasn’t offside then the linesman has literally made something up to stop us scoring!!

Agree with most of that. But Wyke runs like I did at Bamburgh half marathon today at his sprint speed. I don’t blame him for not trying to keep up as he’d have been on the half way line when they got there. He knows he’d not have kept up.
The rest though, absolutely spot on

I am no fan of any of the three clones up front but to be fair to Wyke as he starts every game you would think PP would take him off now and again, but even with two very similar players on the bench he resists the temptation, why is the question I would like to ask. Maybe Parky developed his one game plan before substitutions were permitted, as it certainly looks that way to me.

honestly, i really want to be fair with them all...i called the team out when there was very little service getting to our 'strikers', that now seems to have been sorted, whether by parky's work with them or a 'natural' improvement as the players get used to each other we will never know...i may just give 'parkys work with them' the benefit of the doubt here.

none of the front lads seem able to time a run to meet a cross/center/pass/pull back or judge the flight of the ball, jumping too early for crosses, arriving too late for passes or changing direction just before a ball is pulled back for them...i keep hoping we will see at least one get some kind of partnership going (not expecting another SNQ/SKP) just some understanding but i see your point, maybe highlighted by my previous post that wyke did not even break into a mild trot to keep up with gooch, he is probably knackered and would welcome a break himself.

giving parky the benefit of the supply line in no way lets him off with (what i see as) mistakes every game...late and like for like subs, not giving the young lads a chance, bad choice of starting 11 and tactics, no obvious ability to be able to see problems on pitch and adjust his plan, dropping more effective players for those who do not work together etc etc.

The reaction of Maguire, when Gooch scored, really puzzled me ...

... I just don't know what to make of it.

He looked like he thought 'I've ran all this way and the greedy bastard scored himself :steam: . . . . I'm ****ed and I'll not do that again :emoticon-0173-middl'

I thought that too. Then I thought, he's just run the length of the pitch in support, so was probably knackered

I always look for the reaction of players when someone else scores, says a lot for me.

Kenwyne Jones was one of the worst, used to turn his back.

    I'm not so sure.

Maguire had only been on a short time and he should be more than capable of making that run. Surely another few yards to congratulate Gooch was possible.

    I'll be watching him ....

Yeah a lot of time, especially in the prem where the biggest egos are, you'll see somebody borderline stamp their foot in frustration when their teammate scores instead of squaring it to them.

Dunno if that's what Maguire did but I'm not fond of it as a reaction.

We'd just bounced back from two poor results and clinched the game. IMO Gooch was perfectly entitled to shoot, shows confidence. Whatever divisions there are in the delressibg room they should be forgotten on the pitch. The new manger should make it a club rule that everyone celebrates a goal and sends out a message to the supporters.

If the roles were reversed - would Maguire have passed to Gooch

So much for my Gooch and Maguire partnership up front
please log in to view this image
. On a side note but maybe relevant, I noticed that Gooch struggled all game and only seemed to be himself in the final 10 minutes or so, most of the game Hume seemed to be playing ahead of him. Enigmas both, Gooch and Maguire with their Jekylle and Hyde natures you never know which one is going to turn up. I suppose most wingers are like this, but these two take it to extremes.

I would rather Maguire bust a gut to get there (from his own clearance may I add) and react like that, than someone like Charlie Wyke who was no where near the ball when it went in.

Not a bad thing that players are goal hungry, as long as they do not try a ridiculous shot where an easy pass to a team member in a better position is not ignored.

I though Gooch was right to take the shot on personally, will have to review the highlights to watch Maguires reaction

Not racist, but it is unusual. We must have the least multi cultural team in the league surely?

Possibly but I'm not sure why that matters. Something I never get. If the best players that are available for us are white, then why is it wrong to not sign black players?
