I guess we've finally found a manager who knows what he's doing Can I revise my prediction of 5th final position Shiny ?
Scott Murray ‏@Scotty_Murray 4m Oh no haha looks like S Murray got 2 goals tonight against rovers
Swoon................we won a cup game...!! Hang out the banners in celebration, but I'd rather have 3 league points from Coventry at the weekend
As a word of reason and before we get too carried away with the win - good, pleasing, and unexpected though it was, there were the usual 1st round 'shocks' last night with the likes of Wolves going out to Accrington. However I will wager that Kenny Jackett wont give a damn about not being in the 2nd round of the LC this morning when he will have his sights firmly set on promotion back to the Championship as his number 1 priority. I'm sure SOD has the same focus
Kenny might not care but losing like winning can become a habit and losing to a team that until recently, that whilst Wolverhampton were in the premiership, they were playing non league football must hit the players hard remember what the players at Ashton Gate were saying last season when we lost to this same opposition at home when they were in a league lower than now and we were a league higher.
winning breeds confidence loosing does not. However i rather three points on Sunday, much more important game. Lets keep the form going, well done SOD and players.
Point taken but I dont believe many players rate the LC at the early stages and with other competitions coming along it's been devalued even more over the last few years. If you can reach the 3rd/4th round (or beyond) and draw a top Premiership team at home then great, the club will make some money and might get TV rights too, but how many teams over the years have blown their league form because of being involved in cup competitions which sees them play more games and pick up injuries along the way? I'm not complaining about being in the 2nd round of the LC (honest!) and I'm chuffed we've got this particular monkey off of our back, but I, and I suspect many others, would prefer our focus to be on getting out of this league and back to the Championship asap. Remember how long it took us last time...
Thinking back to last season the run to the Cup Final didn't spoil Bradfords chances too much sometimes yes a cup run can be a distraction other times it can help you kick on especially if you manage to beat one or two of the big boys the confidence from that alone would be a huge boost. In the final Bradford froze and paid the price but if you look at the City team I don't think they would Freeze JET for one would relish being on the big stage as would Cunningham, Moloney and Elliott just to showcase their abilities to their international managers.
Lets hope for a crap team at home so we can have a better chance of a 3rd round draw. That or Liverpool away
A home tie in round 2 against Liverpool would be good for the old coffers a win and a 3rd round tie away at Old Trafford would have the club drooling about the money to roll in.
