Just seen it on match of the day and it was a mess, however when Chamberlain came up and said "Ref, it was me" why on earth can't mariner call Gibbs back and send off Chamberlain? I've seen ref give penalties and then change their mind why can't they correct and obvious mistake, it would have taken 30 seconds and every one would have been praising him instead of criticising.

Thats the way it goes. Refs have a hard enough job as it is and they get no help from the higher powers as they insist on not trying to interfere too much yet it would clearly be better if they just helped them out more. Refs are people and they are clearly prone to mistakes. It's a simple fix, with post match retribution for things like diving and in game replays.

So even though the refs are now 'professional' and supported by assistants and a 4th official we still get a complete horlicks like this. It wasn't human error, it was a shambles.
