It’s been generated on the back of anger at politicians breaking their promises/lying in their manifesto in order to fool many more people into voting for them than would have done had the truth been known. Labour has lied and broken manifesto promises, so people want another chance to vote. Brexit was won on the back of lies, false promises and assumptions which have now proved to be false. Remainers demanded a re-run once the true consequences were known. The circumstances are virtually the same - unless one thinks lying in a referendum is totally different to lying in a GE to ‘steal’ votes?
Not political either way. Pointless petition Give them a chance Then if not happy vote them out Its called democracy
The Brexit petition to revoke article sixty was generated before the UK left the EU. This petition, which I have not signed has been generated four months after the Labour government has taken power and proceeded in weeks to break its manifesto. The two are dissimilar.
I do think that where should be some comeback on lying politicians ‘stealing’ votes. I’m not sure HOW to do it, but too many of them get away with their lies with no accountability at all.
The revolving two party government we have are a paradigm, its two cheeks of the same lying arse. This petition is irritating flies flying around Labour, sent from the irritating citizens of this Country. A legal spit in the eye using a actual government communication mechanism displaying discontent measurable in millions.
It’s not a vote for another election which simply won’t happen, we all know that It’s a record of protest at the total sh*t show that this government is after just 4 months
its not totally pointless. 2,200,000+ are telling the government your already doing a crap job. Its not everyday you can do that. I think labours already choppy waters will get worse.
So a lot of people, probably most of which didn’t vote Labour are now signing an online vote disliking Labours approach. Hardly ground breaking is it. In 4 or 5 years time we’ll all get a chance to decide if they’ve done well enough. In the meantime accept the other side won. It’s called Democracy.
As part of our democracy there is a mechanism where British citizens and UK residents can petition the government. If a petition meets standards and rules, the government will respond and if a petition, meets a threshold and meets the standards the petition is debated in parliament. It will be unique if a petition with millions of signatories is ignored by the government. Yes, this is called democracy.
No **** Sherlock. However Democracy is every 4-5 years we have an election and decide the government for the next term. There is as you rightly point out a procedure to debate issues in parliament if they reach the required threshold, it’s not a trigger to have another election though. If it was we’d be having elections every few months. The point of it is to raise issues to be debated, not to try to overturn a government.
The petition highlights an issue - I believe the current Labour Government have gone back on the promises they laid out in the lead up to the last election. This can refer to the Budget, or the National Insurance employers’ tax rise, or the inheritance tax for farmers. Labour stated they had a fully funded manifesto, Labour have broken their election manifesto and introduced shocking economic damaging measures that were not mentioned in Labours fully funded manifesto. The manifesto was a collection of lies.
They won, get used to it. The last lot made a complete mess of everything, their one time leader didn’t know the difference between a lie and the truth. Remember “oven ready deal” , my arse!!. like it or not Labour won with a massive majority.
