I watched her on Laura Kunesburg and thought she seemed quite sensible. Time will tell .

Building more houses is something that again was promised by your lot, and again they failed abysmally.

I for one will watch with interest to see if her plan works before judging her. She can’t do any worse than the previous lot now can she??, and I didn’t see you complaining about them.

    edit
Paraphrased and simplified, she said in order to enable more houses to be built the planning regs need to be simplified and red tape removed to speed things up, obv the devil is in the details and only time will tell if it’s successful. I do wonder though when the status Quo is threatened vested interests create scare stories, just a thought.

All sides agree more should be built, including Tories. Trying to suggest enough was built is just burying your head in the sand, and trying to justify the unjustifiable.

The objective of making planning easier and quicker is a good one. The principle is good, let’s see if it works.

Don't build even more new homes and blight our countryside

We just need less people in this country

We need more working age people to pay for the over 67’s. Without immigration we simply won’t have enough working age people, there are more and more of us living longer and fewer babies being born. So if we want to keep our pensioners well funded and keep our winter payments we need more working age people.

As I've said many times on here, I am not anti immigration, and we need plenty of skilled people to fulfil roles in the NHS, and with a lesser degree of skill to prop up the care sector.
But I am anti immigration when it comes to the country paying billions of pounds of taxpayers money for unskilled economic migrants who come here just to claim every benefit under the sun, and who contribute nothing, and who are also aided and abetted by lawyers who tell them to claim they are Christian and/or gay when their case is heard, as I guarantee 99% of those arriving, and who go down that route, are neither Christian or gay.

The Human Rights Act is being royally abused and the lawyers are just lining their pockets and giving us permanent residents that we don't want or need, and at our own cost.

Are you talking about legal immigrants or ones that arrive by boat?

My stance is simple, legal immigration should be controlled at levels we decide are needed at any given time, not to be confused with an arbitrary figure based on anything other than need.

Ones that arrive by boat should be processed quickly and anyone not entitled to be here sent back to whence they came. Asylum seekers are separate and again they should be processed quickly and sent back if their bid fails.

The biggest concern for me is we demonise them so that even the legitimate ones are made to feel unwelcome, it’s counterproductive and splits us as a society.

We are better than that we’ve always been a compassionate and caring society. It’s part of who we are, let’s not change that.

    Both

Illegals have no right to be here, and should be deported immediately. End of story, no excuses.
That doesn't include genuine refugees from the likes of Ukraine. It's economic migrants that are draining our coffers.

Net legal immigration last year was nearly 1,000,000 people which is totally unsustainable, and needs it to be severely curtailed or stopped completely (preferably) for a period of time to redress the population balance.

It's no wonder there is a housing shortage, roads are clogged, and people can't see GPs or get Hospital appointments.

    Ridiculous situation.

The country, and the society we all grew up with, is broken.

Your level would be arbitrary. An objective number based on controlled targets would not be.

pray tell me .... where did I say enough was built, there was a table published in July that had all the builds for about the last few decades or so at no point did it ever get above an average of 230,000 or so PA that figure in july was was a tory figure with the caveat that x number were still in the pipeline so likely to be in excess of 230,000?!

A few years ago there was a sort of planning amnesty dont remember which .gov but they fast tracked all the plans in the system, and made some new rules! and there was a lot of problems unfolded in the years following regarding poor builds poor sites over loaded utilities etc.

in 2020 Cardiff council spent 10's of millions of £'s building a massive area of homes for the homeless and migrants that had been accepted.. currently 2 or more years after it's completion it is half empty homeless on the streets is no better but a recent media investigation turned up the "truth" majority of the people pay very little rent... those in situ most have posh up market cars parked out side .... and council admits that couples with 2 incomes a £30,000 car pay peppercorn rent are living there .. the planning permission for this site was rushed through "on a special non statutory " as the houses are supposed to "removable" ...
ps they didnt say how many in the article but go on google locate the site around the edge of Cardiff "green belt area?" and likely you can them from pics or video looked to be at least 100

weird how these lawyers are mostly of the countries of origin! and some are are self appointed ... not on the law society books ... just like you and me, we could be a solicitor advising them.. dont need to go uni or take exams ... get a one room office a sign saying solicitor for immigration and start taking on cases!

separate article regarding parking fines somewhere on here... when couriering A QC [ now KC ] advised after aI mentioned a PCN to look up the solicitor giving me grief and explained it ... said there are loads of pretentious legal people who fail the courses or give up, that resort this way............. unlicenced ... in name only
