I went to Emmanuel College, it was constantly in the news about teaching creationism and we'd get tv cameras outside every so often for documentaries trying to get us to comment on what it was like!
One of my mates got into massive trouble as his words were twisted by the TV crew on the program to make the school look bad.
TBH they taught it alongside evolution and even creationist evolution so it was all a big hurrah over nothing, but most Christians I've met aren't the literal ones, they all believe in evolution...

That's why he isn't teaching a normal subject. No offence, like. <laugh>

I used to work with an Elim Pentecostalist. Used to give 10% of his salary to his church (the vicar had a big house and drove a BMW), but wouldn't give money to Unicef or Oxfam because and I quote "the kids in africa are starving because of gods will". Any of these children who died unbaptised would also go to hell, where as an atheist I would join them.

Yet in his tiny mind he was good and I was evil because I didn't believe in his god. Ignorant twats like him and O'Reilly just cannot be reasoned with because they do not have the brains of a gnat. They boil my piss!

    1. I don't give a **** if they teach the facts of Evolution as well, they shouldn't be teaching Creationism AT ALL.

    2. I wish people would stop saying 'believe in evolution'. Nobody says 'I believe in Atoms' or 'I believe in Gravity'.

Religion has no place in school or otherwise aiding the indoctrination of children. Funnily enough my parents wanted me to go to Emmanuel, but we weren't close enough.

If you're implying Music Tech doesn't take skill then you're a ****ing idiot and I've lost all respect I held for you <doh>

    1. It's the best non private school in the country (or at least it was when I went there, the marks haven't dropped so it probably still is), always at the top of the results leaderboards at GCSE and A-level which considering they're non-selective is amazing. And it's an academy, so it's funded by Sir Peter Vardy who gets a massive say in how it's ran. TBH without the Christian strict discipline ethos it wouldn't be the school it is and get kids the marks they do, so you wont hear much parents complaining, half the teachers say it's bull anyway, so it's not really a problem they just teach it as an alternative.

    2. Unfortunately Evolution is still classed a scientific theory, there's obviously a massive amount of evidence with selective breeding and the like being an example, but until the monkeys start evolving before our eyes we can't 100% prove it (Daft I know) and we'll have all these weird and wonderful opposing theories.

I suggest you read something like this mate: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Evolution_as_theory_and_fact

*edit* Thought I'd add and edit to say if, realise that first part sounds very argumentative.

Imagine what would of happened if this was a muslim and she was mentioning Allah instead...

People complain too much about muslims, when it's extremists that are the pricks, of any religion =/

It was tongue in cheek. <doh>

I was only making a joke about there being a reason he taught a subject other than science. <ok>

    Well said mate.

People like Bin Laden and Al Qaeda don't represent any religion. They are just terrorist trying to **** up the world. It is in fact a minority as I read somewhere 99% of the Muslim community condemned the 9/11 attacks.

I certainly see an ethical issue in thinking it's OK if pupils get good grades in most subjects, provided they're taught complete bull**** as part of science classes.

Do you even know what a Scientific Theory is? It is the highest level of proof available in science, and evolution has been 100% proved. The fossil record, molecular biology, anatomy, etc... all correlate. Even the layout of our teeth is the same as the other great apes (3 molars, 2 premolars, 1 canine, 2 incisors). If you really think it hasn't been proven beyond all doubt, I guess it's my turn to lose a little respect for you! <yikes> Especially if you think any sane person has EVER said we "evolved from monkeys". Why do we need to see monkeys evolving before our very eyes FFS?!?

You're clearly not stupid if you're at University, but Jesus ****ing Christ mate, your understanding of Evolutionary Theory leaves a LOT to be desired!

If you read the link you'd know what I meant, the monkey thing was a generalisation, having dealt with creationists the monkey thing was more from their perspective I guess in a "You wont get people to believe it unless they see it before their very eyes." <doh>. I ****ing believe in evolution 100%, don't see why we're even debating here.

Scientific theory is not fact, it's where a massive amount of evidence/facts has been proven to support the theory proposed and all direction points to that being true, as in there is that much overwhelming evidence that it is true, but there is no opposing acceptable theory disproving it. If say as science & technology advances and we then find an alternative theory backed up with scientific evidence and data which means that the original theory was proven to be wrong it leaves the book open. Again something we both agree on is this won't happen as it's a bit like 2+2=5, the facts are there for all to see.

Anyways I agree with you that school & religion should be kept separate, I went through christian schools all my life, but again the grades and ethics thing; half the teachers didn't believe it themselves, there was always a massive disclaimer before they said anything, parents could opt their kids out of assemblies and being taught creationism and with regards sixth form, we had a compulsory philosophy, theology and ethics lesson worth 20 ucas points and we could debate for/against the likes of religion in school, existence of god/s, abortion, euthanasia and a hell of a lot more.
Again much ado about nothing as we're both on the same side here, you're going after the wrong guy.
