He also plays in a league where the pace is far slower than the EPL, it's a different game over here. The Beckham "quarter back" position simply wouldn't work in this league imo.
Given you seem totally oblivious to very obvious drop off in the physical ability of Mr Gerrard, I think this is very apt........ please log in to view this image
Didn't we hear all this **** after 10 games last season? Notice any similarities to last year? New formation etc. Ring any bells? Yet by the end of the season he was one of our most consistent performers and that was in a team playing some damn good footy. Yet the knives are out again so quickly. On the plus side...you and Tobes can agree on something
Spot on. Whenever Gerrard has a bad game this rubbish starts, people just need to accept the fact that he is not the player he was but still is a very important player for us in a different role.
He also does it at European and international level pretty well Are you claiming Pirlo wouldn't be a good Prem player? Bet you'd be gutted if Everton signed him? As for your point about the "quarterback position"....have you even bothered reading anything written in the last 2 pages (1 page if you're Gerrez)? The best place for him is in the centre with Lucas behind.
Well I know we all had the same discussions this time last year and who was proved right come the end of the season It will be the same by the end of this season.
Pirlo doesn't play ahead of a DM player, he sits deep these days, so you're contradicting yourself with the comparison. If you played Gerrard in a CM position ahead of Lucas, where would Coutinho play? Along side him? or have you dropped a striker?
I was in a minority that didn't think he improved - I still thought Gerrard was a hindrance to our style of play and I've not rated him for a few years. LOL - I'm starting to like him ... #Not
It's not him that's a hinderance it's the system. Just as an example we haven't kept a clean sheet since september 2nd...no coincidence this has coincided with the formation change. The second point here is despite us playing poorly Saturday we are sitting third with a decent chance to at least consolidate that position this weekend. I'm more than happy with how we've started this season. As bad as the Arsenal game felt it shows the team what level we have to rise to AS A TEAM. It wasn't good enough on Saturday but we were rubbish from front to back (credit to Arsenal for that tbf). Ming was nervous, Cissokho useless, Skrtel shaky, Gerrard and Lucas poor and Suarez and Sturridge both off their game.
Anyone remember on the old 606 when Gerrard & Baines played for England just before the 2010 world cup on the left and Everton fans convinced themselves that Gerrard was ignoring Baines and not passing to him, which led to Baines not going to the world cup? Good old Everton fans, very amusing people but not to be taken seriously when discussing anything Liverpool.
Well,it appears Gerrard is injured, (hip) at least for Fulham so it will be interesting how we line up. You would think the likes of Allen would want to prove something.
What would you prefer ---Allen---Hendo---- -----Coutinho or ----Hendo---Lucas---- -----Coutinho------- I think we should be looking to go at Fulham and play more attacking.
So now the conjecture begins. Considering some of the opposed viewpoints on this thread. Is this a 'real' injury, or a 'saving face' injury?
The ironic thing is that I feel this is a perfect game for Gerrard and Lucas because I can't see Fulham pressuring them too much - thus giving them time and space to do damage.
I would have taken out Lucas tbh, don't think we need the DM player at home against Fulham. Would rather hendo/allen there and look to press them ( Allen does do well at this).
Allen and Lucas with Coutinho, Sturridge, Suarez & Moses ahead of them. Moses & Coutinho on the wings with Suarez just in behind Sturridge.
Lucas or Gerrard should sit this one and if it is Gerrard that is fine. I know with Hendo you would have the energy and Allen as well in terms of pressing but do like that a lot actually. A lot of options, a lot of mobility and counter attacking options ( if for some reason we do get pinned back).
Well BR will probably stay with 3_5_2 which I dislike but in that case. .............Mignolet.......... . .....Toure......skrts.........sacks....... Henderson..Lucas....Johnson ....... Allen.......Coutinho..... ......Suarez........Sturridge...... With this youd like to think Lucas could mop up Fulham and Allen could drop in to support if needed. Hendo & Johnson can get up and down the field.. I would love to see 4_3_3 ............. Mignolet.............. Johnson.Toure..Agger...Sissoko... ...... .......Lucas........ ................ ....Henderson ...... ........Allen ....Suarez..............Coutinho ....... ...Sturridge............ Lets see if Henderson can link that midfield with defense and attack. The top three can interchange and take turns dropping to receive the ball.won't happen though lol.and Sissoko is only there because Enrique is injured.
