Gerrard just said in the post match interview that BR will be playing him in the holding role from here forward, so since he's not going to be dropped:

What does that do to Lucas.

Who will our midfield targets be now?

Allen will start ahead of Lucas.

Bring back Allen when fit. Whether he's good enough or not, it's not coincidence since Gerrard has come back our midfield has looked dysfunctional, in fact, I'd argue that Allen's "tidiness" on the ball would of been sorely needed today.

At home Gerrard is absolutely fine as a DM (depending on who we play). But one way or another, there's something just not quite right with both Lucas and Gerrard in the team.

    not sure what to think.

although i don't rate Allen, he works in a midfield of him,Henderson and Lucas and its full of energy, with time can only get better surely, with Gerrard we lose a lot of that but his passing is what makes him undroppable maybe, i don't know, cant see Allen being dropped so who knows what will happen with Lucas.

So that means Lucas goes upfield where he's not effective and Gerrard plays more defensive which goes against his best attribute (his defense splitting passing)?

I hope BR knows what he's doing but I'm not convinced yet...

Maybe it's a big ploy by BR to show we need re-enforcements in the middle by saying we're having to play players in diff positions because we don't have enough to cover <whistle>

  7. I thought he played much better today. He tracked runs too.

Coutinho pissed me off at one point though because we lost possession and he just stood there with his hands on his hips, absolutely no attempt to help his teammates out after HIS f**kup! And no, he didn't need to make a lung busting run back, he was within a yard of the ball at the time.

Johnson was back to his lazy batard self too.

Agree about tracking the runs. One moment summed him up today from our corner, they broke (I'm not sure where he was but I'm guessing it would have been around the edge of their box) and he ended up being the last man to cut out the cross.

Long time I've said he's lazy by not tracking but today seemed to take that responsibility. Still a **** touch to set up their 3rd when should have just let Lucas head it clear though.

  9. He was the last man a few times but that one was very important <ok>

His defensive work was good but his passing was awful.

Was the worst range of passing I've seen from Gerrard. Tracked back alright but his aim was way off today.

I thought it odd but it was a 4-1-4-1 formation almost. I wasn't impressed.

Lucas as box to box... really didn't impress me. the only question in my mind is if we get to buy someone or have to turn to allen. while allen is average you need more mobility than he showed today.

gerrard was "holding" not defending.. why cos he can't f'n defend <laugh> with the split CBs he works ok but i actual defending we'll get destroyed by a good side.

I am intrigued to see what happens when allen gets fit again. never thought i would say this but allen should start IMO

I agree with many on here that allen is lightweight, but his energy makes our midfield more fluid - its no coincidence that hendo and lucas have crap games when gerrards playing...

Think he just had to make up for the inept defence today <ok>

Sakho is needed and Christ Johnson is just beyond irritating now, he is a weak link.

Hoping that Lucas covered that box to box position today and some monster is about to sign <diva>

Yep, I mentioned on different threads that I Thought he was good defensively and he looked fresh. However, his passing was poor which is understandable considering he's just come back from injury.

But Gerrard as a holding mid? Not a chance, nor as a DM. He doesn't have the discipline to play such a role as his first thought is to always play forward and quickly.

There was a complete lack of cohesion in the midfield but that was down to everyone, and not just Gerrard.

You could argue that the defence was exposed by the inept midfield ... ?

The full backs were terrible. Can't really say anything other than that!

Was tongue in cheek comment - you are right, the midfield wasn't up to it, Hendo was anonymous, Gerrard put a fair few passes astray and Lucas is no box to box midfielder (surprised he didn't get a nose bleed)!

Just annoys me that everyone jumps on the captains back as if everything would have been spot on if he didn't play.... Just like the losses at City and Chelsea... But that don't matter because we passed quickly

Was really disappointed with Hendo - it looks like he's gone into his shell now that Gerrard is back. Hopefully he can break the shackles!

I'm Gerrard's biggest critic but I agree that a few others had poorer matches.

I can't say I buy in to that either - maybe we are just expecting top much too soon from him?

He was playing in front of Gerrard today so I can't imagine why it'd be an issue personally - just think he is struggling to be consistent
