The Governor of Illinois has just been on the box and has clarified the difference between what Trump is declaring and what the purpose of the NG is. He also called on them...he also said Trumps suggestion is illegal

Just had a quick look and the Governors can mobilise them themselves.

I'd be really surprised if anyone on here was somehow an expert on the US national guard, kinda a niche interest tbf <laugh>

Did a bit of searching:

"When National Guard units are not under federal control, the governor is the commander-in-chief of the units of his or her respective state or territory (such as Puerto Rico, Guam and the Virgin Islands)." So, the governor can request the aid of the guard and upon those units entering the state that Governor is the guy who makes the final call on decisions. It wouldn't be the feds.

And they can be called for:

"The Governor can activate National Guard personnel to "State Active Duty" in response to natural or man-made disasters or Homeland Defense missions. State Active Duty is based on State statute and policy and on State funds. Soldiers and Airmen remain under the command and control of the Governor. The federal Posse Comitatus Act (PCA) does not apply under state active duty status or Title 32 status."

so like "**** man im in trouble help"

Police in Philadelphia ‘taking a knee’ in solidarity with protesters and drawing cheers and gratitude.

Then shortly afterwards heavily armed units moving in to stand off with the same protesters.

The way i read it was him saying if the states don't use the National Guard he would go above them and use the actual military.

Probably misunderstood him though.

Trumps all talk man, I hate him.

He wants to be a dictator so bad, but like, I really think its impossible in the US. He literally doesnt even control the army based in the country.

I’m sure is hasn’t escaped people’s attentions that the US police are well equipped to deal with looting. It’s not a major overwhelming issue for them, they are well equipped.

So why does Trump want to turn the military against his own people ?
