Anything that takes down the Daily Mail should be encouraged. Those ****s were Hitler supporters and Mosley's blackshirts fascists in the UK. And since then, they are probably responsible for spreading more hate and racial tensions than practically anybody else in the mainstream media. They won't ever admit to any of that though and they'd never apologise for it. Which kind of brings me to my point. These people have had long enough to recognise what they did and face up to it, there has been hundreds of years of campaigning and protest against racial inequality and time and time again it's been swept aside and people of colour have been demonised as 'other', 'inferior' and to be feared, whilst their oppressors have been lauded as heroes and rewarded with wealth, power and influence. So I say **** em'. They've had their chance and didn't listen. Worse than that they doubled down and built even more barriers to equality. Tear them down and chuck them in the ****ing bin where they belong.
Bo selecta taken off all4 and netflix and leigh Francis apologises for playing Black characters. Comm will be fuking fuming to hear white chicks is still on there.
I'm finding all this interesting, especially the comments made by the people behind the characters. Such as, I didn't know this was wrong, I didn't think about it. Which get's me to thinking, how didn't you know this was wrong, I wrongly assumed we had moved beyond this in the 21st Century. I can look back at days when comedy shows such as Love thy Neighbour were on our TV screens, these were last made back in the 70's. I think maybe the problem is when these shows were removed from our screens, they were just tucked away quietly in the corner, with no news headline announcement, hence people just think the show had ended their series rather than them being offensive. Sadly it demonstrates a massive lack of education, we tuck racism away like a porno mag, rather than face the acts of discrimination.
Some of those shows were made in the ‘lads and laddette’ era of nuts And loaded magazine. Which was a bit of a backlash to what was seen as ‘politics correctness gone mad’ of the early 90’s.
I just don't get how in 2020, comedians or actors can say they didn't know. It's like the constant barrage of sexual innuendo's, Mary Whitehouse must be turning in her grave. I'm not saying what can and cannot be done, but for people to say they 'didn't know' I'm like fook off!
Yeah I agree. I think it was more a case of what they could get away with rather than not knowing. I mentioned the context of the lads magazine/culture as that gave people more room to express sexist/racial stereotypes on the back of a backlash against political correctness. I just think there was a culture of trying to be as controversial as you could get away with at the time.
Exactly, I have no problem with a comedian exploring the boundaries, if it's wrong you unplug it. But to say you didn't know is insulting intelligence. Most of Comedy can be deemed wrong for one reason or another, but it's exploring acceptable boundaries, your audience is your judge and jury.
Mentioned it earlier in the thread, that things like blazing saddles and in sickness and in health were comedies that exposed the ridiculous nature of racism. So comedy has a role to play, but when it’s just poking fun at racial stereotypes, then it just adds to and legitimises the discrimination.
Yeah, I’m not in favour of banning things generally, because I don’t think it helps. But if you’re a celebrity or comedian who overstepped the mark, don’t pretend you didn’t know what you were doing. ****it, we’ve all done and said things we’re not proud of, either man up and own it, apologise, or stfu, but don’t hide behind “it was different then”.
This is brilliant Horror as Black Lives Matter protester hit by toppled statue 'leaving skull showing' **WARNING: DISTRESSING CONTENT** Video shows a bloodstain where a toppled Confederate statue landed on a Black Lives Matter protester's head with a witness describing the horrific injury https://www.dailystar.co.uk/news/wo...m90YYO-phDMo#ICID=Android_StarNewApp_AppShare
If the stupid ****s want to engage in rioting and criminal damage then I’m entitled to laugh my head off when it goes tits up
Everyone remembers "love thy neighbour" but there was another equally racist programme at the same time called "mind your language"...****ing hated having to go to school the morning after that had been on... was ****ing abhorrent. Weirdly enough both those shows were written to oppose racism via humour but ****ed it up.
So here’s a thing I’ve observed. You like your hip hop don’t you ? So that genre was born out of the struggle marginalised black people. You champion that, yet here you are laughing at a man seriously injured pulling down a statue dedicated to the oppression of black people and the struggle that hip hop gives voice to. just wondering where you really sit with all of this ? with regard to a conversation I was having on here the other day, you’re either in or out on this matter, there’s no sitting on the fence, you either support ending racial discrimination or you don’t.
I remember the title of 'mind your language' but nowt more - so googled it, vaguely remember it. Sample from the programme; Teacher questioning students, claiming there had been no cheating in the exam, which was denied. Exam question, what is wrong with the following sentence; 'My dogs is in the garden' five answers replied 'I do not have a garden.'
