Interesting facts about that statue btw. The fella snuffed it in the early 1700’s but they didn’t erect a statue in his memory until 1895, wtf was that all about? Also the council wanted to stick another plaque on it explaining what he’d done in terms of the slave trade after getting a petition of 11,000 signatures wanting it removed. Only it was blocked by some Tory councillors and a local group of some sort.
Best live footage I've seen for a while........ Even though I've family in Bristol and have known it as a slave port.... I'd never noticed the statue of slave traders....... Glad I'm never gonna see the racist twats face in the future..... He would have put me right of my Caribbean curry and rice
Ah ok. I don't feel comfortable about his statue being graffited but I don't know my history, so i'm not going to judge. They will just have to clean it up.
Fair enough, they must be used to this in the City, it will not have been the first time and it won't be the last. Statues tend to be a target quite often for all sorts of reasons. I think I posted on here one time the statue down in chav town (Chatham) that's always got a cone on it's head
Farage is an idiot and his comments are deliberately inflammatory and, as such, grossly irresponsible for a man aspiring to public office ... seems to work for that twat Trump mind. Pritti Vacant is correct with her condemnation of the idiots that were there with intent to cause criminal damage and assault the police ... they managed to deflect from the real reason that people were protesting ... twats.
Some Tory MP’s made it a photo op earlier, had a go and then left the hard graft to a black fella in a Hi Viz.........
I'm on both sides, that of the peaceful crowd and them intent on trouble..... That in my view truly shows this country and its class separation system needs changing and needs to be changing now..... Not next election, now or the walls will come tumblin down and we will start again to build a democracy based on transparency and truth and equality to all
I’d never heard of the fella before and tbh only know what Tobes etc. has shared, I don’t really care where it has ended up as I’m not sure what purpose having a statue of a slave trader is achieving. I do feel slightly uncomfortable with how it got there?
There was a guy being interviewed on SKY News, and he seemed to assure that nothing else was damaged and as I thought with the police, no one else was target for their moment of fun. So I just saw it as a win a win. Once the statue was dethroned, it didn't look very elegant anyway, more like a piece of scrap metal, that I can't be asked to cry over. The guy interviewed on the TV added a touch of humour when he said, it's only been moved, from there to there, you just might need some snorkelling gear to see it now
