I appreciate a young player with some potential, who is not a midget, knows where the weight room is, will shed blood to win a challenge, but isn't a dirty player, who performs consistently and steps up in the clutch, despite not being a truly gifted player.
He's a great lad like a lot of the above which you mention but I am still slightly baffled as to why a lot of people seem to think he's the answer to everything and that he should be first choice. Lets not forget he played RB all of last season, if he was the best CM at the club they would have played him there.
I don't necessarily think he should be first choice, wouldn't pick him over Gooch or McNulty at the moment. I wouldn't mind seeing him playing next to Dobson at some point, perhaps in a cup tie, to see how that might work out.
I think that's a slightly negative appraisal of the situation, it wasn't a case of him not being good enough for CM so stick him at RB it was more that we needed someone to fill in because Matthews is made of wafers and O'Nien had the best attributes for it. I would have liked to see him at CM next to Dobson based on being one of our best players last season despite being played out of position, but McGeough has gone from zero to hero so I dunno now.
Not necessarily negative, if he was head an shoulders above everyone else then he'd be playing in his preferred position and not out of position IMO. Someone else would have filled in at RB and probably done a similar job for us. For what it's worth, I'd like to see him given a go in CM as well. His running and energy might be what we need as by the sounds of it we're still far too static.
