Good tie break. For most of the match it's as if she has had too much adrenaline, hitting the ball too long so often. Hope she keeps it together.
If anyone doubts Konta's nationality, they only have to look at her ability to torture her public. British, through and through
I don't quite see how Halep hasn't won easily in 2 sets if the stats they're talking about in commentary are right! Only 6 unforced errors? That's amazing.
Strange way to finish. Well done, Konta...but whoever squealed in the middle of the point should be slapped.
I was on Centre Court last Wednesday and there was this really irritating woman in front of me who got completely over-excited during Andy's match. I actually told her to shut up, especially between 1st and 2nd serve, or I'd ask a steward to remove her as she was so noisy and she should remember that she wasn't sitting at home. Thankfully, she left after Andy's match...
Temperament can't do it without talent, but her coolness is a real asset. As a commentator said yesterday, she forgets bad balls as soon as it happens as she has the memory of a goldfish Tough to play a long game just the day after a game yesterday.
Superbly fit too, as is Halep of course, but it was Jo keeping to her plan and playing those aggressive strokes, knowing that most of the time they will come off. As you say, forget the last point and focus on the next. She could have been coached by Nigel Adkins...
All the ladies have a chance to make hay while the great Queen Serena is on maternity leave. However as Serena is 35, this could well signal anr era where there isn't a single dominant female player so there is every likelihood of the trophies being spread around until the new Graf or Serena is unearthed.
If anyone has had a bet on a Briton winning the five titles at Wimbeldon, good luck to you if the dream comes true Murray, Konta, the brothers , the other Murray in the mixed. Not sure if there are any British players in the ladies doubles. Would love a world class player to emerge from the sub-continent or Africa.
If Venus and the Fed win the respective titles over the weekend, this will surely amount to the oldest champions ever. However, Venus is yielding 11 years and mobility to Konta, so advantage Konta. Wouldn't be at all surprised to see Murray in the final against Djoko, though. How many times do we see a team or player performing way below their best, get to a final?
Not singles but the Indian pair Bhupati and Paes (haven't checked the spelling) were one of the best doubles combos around a few years ago.
How awful...the article said he was badly injured. He was training with the javelin and shot put....I hope it didn't involve another athlete....that would be devastating. Poor man. Apparently struck by a pole at the training centre....according to Sky.
