Is it officially confirmed? BBC just reporting that he "could" as they've held talks and his current Merc contract allows him to leave his contract in 2025.
It’s on AUTOSPORT as well , they tend to know their stuff . I reckon it’s happening . Hamilton set to make shock switch to Ferrari in F1 2025 Lewis Hamilton is poised for a sensational move to Ferrari for 2025 with a decision on his Formula 1 future expected imminently. please log in to view this image AUTHORJonathan Noble UPDATEDFEB 1, 2024 AT 11:19 AM 39 please log in to view this image Although it is not clear if a final contract has been signed, Autosport understands that negotiations are at an advanced stage and could be concluded by the end of this week. Ferrari has long been interested in Hamilton’s services but its overtures have previously been rejected because the seven-time F1 world champion felt Mercedes offered him a better route to success. However it now appears that, off the back of two challenging seasons for Mercedes, Ferrari is close to convincing Hamilton that it is a better bet for the future.
I am taking from this that Hamilton has little faith that the Mercedes unit for the upcoming year will be much closer to challenging the Red bull.
Assuming this does happen, it will be really fascinating to see the relationship between Charles and Lewis and the team. Lewis has been the clear number 1 driver in his team for a long time now. Ferrari will have two "number one" drivers and managing them will be crucial.
Don't think that's got too much to do with it TBH. I doubt Lewis knows how the car will shape up this year compared to Red Bull. I think it's far more to do with the appeal of driving for Ferrari - the most famous car manufacturer in F1.
That will be part of it of course, but he would prefer another title than to realise the dream of driving for Ferrari. He might be thinking neither Mercedes or Ferrari will likely get close to RB, so he may as well not win in a Ferrari rather than a Mercedes.
I quite like the fact both of them are prepared to take a risk here. Lewis could conceivably be “retired” by Charles, as Vettel was, and Charles is effectively giving up his de facto number one position to have a seven times champion to try and match himself against. Credit to both of them. If it works, it’s some line up.
He might not need to win any mental games. He might just be quicker. Who knows? I think it'll likely be a harder transition for Lewis than people might expect. If you're going to have two #1 drivers, you want one of them to be Charles, because he's so nice.
Sure will. I personally think they'll be very equal. Charles will be quicker in qualifying, but Lewis might have the edge in the race. It could go HORRIBLY wrong for one of them though.
Yeah, that was my thoughts. Lewis has the knack of getting the most out of the car during the race. Charles seems to nail qualifying and then encounter wretched misfortune on the Sunday.
It could really help Charles in terms of Lewis's experience in developing a car. Presuming it's only realistically going to be a 2 year deal for Lewis, it could set them up nicely. Going to be fascinating either way. I see Ferrari's stock price has gone up 8% today with the news!
