Any golf lovers out there looking forward to the masters this week? It has added spice this year with the LIV players being involved, it could be very tasty.
I love watching the Masters. The course is so beautiful to look at, but then it should be with the effort they put into showing it off to the world. Yeah there could be a bit of needle between the two groups of players, especially if they are in the same groups. I have seen comments about how much it would cost a LIV golfer to get out of their contract. For example Dustin Johnson was allegedly signed up on a $125 million bonus ($50 million more than his career earnings in 16 years golf). To get out of his contract he could have to pay up to 4 times his signing bonus, which could be $500 million. Eye watering figures! I can see why they signed up, based on the money, especially as it seems that their contracts only run to the end of 2025. https://ftw.usatoday.com/2023/03/liv-golf-cost-to-break-contract
Jon Rahm, what a player. Starts with a 4 putt, double bogey on the first and is currently the clubhouse leader on -7.
Had him as my outright pick before (still think Scottie will do it but odds were crap). Had a few quid on Jason Day and Tom Kim as an outsider and long odds to place top 8 - all looking decent!
Put a few quid on Justin Thomas. I never go for the favourites in events like this. No value in that at all.
Weather forecast isn’t too good for Augusta today. My phone app is predicting thunderstorms today with rain tomorrow.
That will sort out the field for sure, and a possible Monday finish, though more likely later Sunday.
Might help some of the shorter hitters as a soft green will be more receptive to the longer irons they hit on the approach, although the longer hitters will probably be salivating at the thought of dropping short irons close to the flag, knowing that they won’t skip on or spin back too far. Putting will be interesting as well as a slower green could mean eliminating some of the borrow and being more aggressive, only to have to go back to being extra careful Sunday if the hot & sunny forecast is accurate.
True, but it's Friday and the weather has yet to have its way with these amazing players. Tomorrow is going to be a really interesting day!
