Williams beats Konta in straight sets. Konta did break Serena once, but really the American was just too good. As a totally partisan sport watcher, the Australian Open is over for me.
Usain Bolt among Jamaica 4x100 relay squad stripped of gold medal in 2008 Olympics after one member (Carter) tested positive..why did it take so long.
Further to this just seen that he could meet Nadal in the final. Would be great to see those 2 have one last final for a grand slam.
I would like Dimitrov to win the tournament and thus get his first GS. The other three have won it so many times it is time for a new GS winner. Having said that I would love Serena to win at least three of the GS and so surpass the great Margaret Court.
Carter wasn't the only Jamaican allegedly using something to enhance his performance. Powell was caught and for how long he was using something before being caught we honestly don't know. There have been stories about Blake as well. And everyone of the US relay team has been done for doping which begs the questions why were the Russians banned and the US permitted to take part in the last Olympics. Double standards there. And is someone going to tell me that cycling is now squeaky clean? And then we had a couple of New Zealand rugby players found with banned substances after being tested. A friend reckons that all rugby players are on something to build up their muscle to withstand the huge hits. Ban them and you end up without any rugby. Plain and simple
Williams v Williams in the Ladies final. If the Byran brothers can win the Men's Doubles and Mattek-Sands and her partner the Ladies' Doubles, it will have been a good fortnight for the US!!
Undoubtedly given what has happened!!! Where's Justin when he is most needed (not Timberlake or the other singer,) but the proper Justin .... 3rd fastest man on the planet?
Form is temporary, class is permanent. If anyone has put a punter on Nadal playing Federer in the final, well done and enjoy your winnings. Hopefully Dimitrov will get his place in the sun in a GS later this year. Well done to all 4 semi-finalists. In a way you were all winners.
First time in the history of open-era tennis that all 4 finalists in the men's and women's singles are over 30. Quite amazing.
Funny how we seem to think of Nadal as "extremely" old as a tennis player yet the reality is that he's younger than Warinka (who is not deemed as old, probably because he peaked much later) and is only 13 months older than Djoko and Murray! I suppose it is because he has been at the top since he was 19 while the current 1 and 2 arrived at the tennis summit in their early 20s which is the norm if we consider the age that other greats reached the summit like Sampras, Edberg, Connors, Borg, Emerson, Laver, Newcombe. Where are the youngsters as Raonic and Dimitrov are already in their mid-20s while Thiem is only 2 years younger. It seems that those of 21 or 22 are not in the same class as the Super 4. In the next 10 years I think there will be multipls winners of the GS with no player in particular being the dominant one.
