Ryder’s Cup team should be nailed on.

It was the performance of the year, or rather the demolition job of the year but for a one-off event? If not Ireland´s rugby team, then Manchester City, even England´s cricket teams. SPOTY - Is anyone going for Jimmy Anderson?

Geraint Thomas for me, or Simon Yates.

Not just about performance. It's the personality as well. The England team brought this country together so much. The scenes where fans went mental with several thousand pints being hurled into the air will live long in the memory. There was a massive feel good factor throughout the entire country that the Ryder Cup just didn't bring.

You are quite right that sport is about emotion but is also involves craftsmanship, tactics, a streak of ruthlessness and winning. The Ryder Cup team displayed that in abundance, England´s cricketers are exhibiting those traits, or seem to be, having won the last two test series convincingly. Then there is Team Sky in cycling. As wonderful as it may have been to see beer thrown into the air, I am not convinced the England´s footballers quite measure up to being winners just yet, and for that I do not think they merit Team of the Year.

The Ryder Cup Team brought European golf fans together, and it actually won the trophy.
    We won’t agree.

And we have seen the consequences of that when people were given a vote. Just because England male footballers got to a World Cup semi, does not make them the British team of the year. There are 4 better contenders and more deserving winners, and I have not thought about the ladies yet, so we could find at least 6 teams more worthy of the award. because they won whereas England´s male footballers didn´t

Again, the Sports Personality awards (as the title suggests) isn't all about winning.

Don't usually follow the SPOTY stuff but isn't it a public vote? I would guess that the most popular/followed sport would probably win if they have had some success, like when Giggs won it

In football, there's a huge discrepancy between teams in terms of salaries even within the same league. In the NFL, the difference is relatively small... And the Vikings are second! Gasp

    Probably down to Cousins.

Yes I get that, but there is no way the top spending NFL teams salary is £2.6m, it will be way higher. Cousins is on almost $30m a season by himself

I think it’s average salaries. Barcelona this year became the first sports team in history to pay an average £10m to their entire squad.
