General questions about supporting QPR

Hi there.

My name is Simon and i'm from Switzerland. I'll work in London for the next three months and i'm keen in watching some QPR Games during my stay.

For this reason i have some general questions:

My first game will be against Barnsley next Saturday. In which stand shall i buy a ticket? I would like to go where the most active QPR Homesupporters are situated.

I've seen that the away fans are at schools end, so i guess i should go to the opposit stand (Loftus Road). But online ticketing says that there is the Family Area which seems a bit strange for me.

Where is the best place to have some beers before the game to get in contact with some QPR Supporters?

I would also like to go to the away game against Millwall. I would like to go to the away end. Is it possible for me to get tickets for the away end when i'm not a member or in any supporters club? How will you go there? Together with busses or by a special train (In Switzerland we always have a single train for all the away fans, and everybody is walking to the stadium together)?

Welcome Simon, you'll have forgotten all about Luzern after seeing the R's play a few times.

You will not be able to sit in the Loft End unless you are a member (Upper Loft is members only, Lower Loft family). Best is to go for R or S block in the Ellerslie Road Stand - lots of loud home supporters.

You want to go to Millwall? Really? Their fans have a reputation for violence outside the stadium, but this may be a little unfair. But the away trip does attract some QPR supporters who are also interested in a fight. I think you need to be a member (its only £25) or season ticket holder to get tickets for the away section. If you go be prepared to be kept in the stadium for a bit after the game while the home fans leave.

As Stan said, R or S block, but Loftus Road is noisy wherever you sit.
Most pubs in Shepherds Bush are QPR friendly - enjoy your day and time in this fantastic town!

Ok, may i have to cancel the plan with the away end. I may trying to get tickets in a regular block.

The information you have been given is quite correct. Although the Loft has a good atmosphere, I prefer the Ellerslie Road stand especially X block which is near the away end. It makes for some interesting banter between the 2 groups of fans. Have a great time. English by birth, QPR by the grace of God!

Block R of Ellerslie Rd for atmosphere, or what's left of it.

Queen Adelaide pub, Uxbridge Rd Shepherds Bush for beer.

Millwall is easily accesible via London Bridge on the train. South Bermondsey is the closest stop. It's not as bad as some would have you believe.

concur with all...R block towards the front for the atmosphere (P and R block banter)...Im in R block saturday too. Come and say hallo...I'll still be wearing my QPR Beth shirt...even though it now it only says ETH. Why not get a stadium tour while you are here...suppose to be fun

Just had a quick look at FC Luzern wikipedia page...they appear to be one of the smaller clubs in Switzerland, have a 17k capacity stadium, play in blue and white and have played in Europa competitions a few times. One of their "notable" former players is a certain David Fairclough.....those old enough will remember him as the original "super sub" from his Liverpool days....

One suggestion, Simon, is that you don't wear a football top if you do go to the Milwall match. Neither QPR's top, or Luzern's (they may just see the shirt and assume it's one of our vintage kits). They do still have an element of idiots amongst their fans, and particularly if you find yourself in the home section it's better not to risk provoking any trouble.

Do they have any hooliganism in Switzerland?

Yes, i guess we're quite a similar club. We used to be a lift team for many years. Now we're kind of "solid" and didn't get relegated for 8 years. Two years ago we were even second of the league (behind Basel) and lost the cup final against Basel after penalty shoot out (this is also verry typical for FC Luzern) For two years now, we're playing in a new stadium. Now the owners are trying to make an "event" out football games which is a shame -> "modern football". But not like in the PL, the stadiums are not sold out anyway, so they can not do whatever they want and fill them with tourists. There is a big and solid "traditional" supporting community who fights for football as it should be.

I will wear my FC Luzern scarf only in Shepherd’s Bush then :emoticon-0103-cool:.

There were kind of hooliganism in the 80/90ies. At the moment there is big Ultra Fan Culture in most of the Swiss Stadiums. Violence is actually not there main topic. They are responsable for a lot of flares, fireworks, smoke and choreos in the swiss stadiums which is quite nice. For sure there is violence from time to time outside the stadium. Specially when rivals such as Basel & Zurich are playing against each other. But it was relatively quite the last few years.

I do not really like this modern "plastic" stadiums like the Emirates. In my opinion they celebrate football exactly that way we do not want in Switzerland, as an event. If they still would have Highburry i would have had a go for sure :-). Maybe ill go to the Spurs, just because i like there stadium. But in general i think i'll get the "english football experience" from Championship down to League Two.

Its a modern stadium with only one trier for about 17k fans. Behind the goal we have a stand without seats for the active supporters. In opposition to the QPR stadium your allowed to drink beer and smoke at the stands :-).

(This one was very nice, proper oldschool stadium. The active supporters (standing area) was on the side which was very special.
