won 2 semi finals, more than any England manager in history, but then you're that guy that bullshits that he'd rather watch his team lose playing good football than win defensively.
Here we go.

Consistently preferring football to a need to bolster my ego on other people's efforts. OK

The draws were key not the manager.

Fair point. We were lucky we were able to avoid the likes of Iceland, Algeria and Romania that previous England teams came up against. Southgate only had to get past the minnows of Germany, Holland and Columbia.

Quite a lot of truth in this. His record against decent teams considering the players he was blessed with wasn’t much to shout about. Losing to Italy at home and Croatia with a headstart was piss poor.

Sven was closer to winning something... just met the best sides early and ran them very close.

It was obvious southgates England weren't very good.

Not really. People seem to forget that we'd had 20+ years of England going out against rubbish teams, under Southgate we usually went out against the first or second genuinely good team we met - that's a huge improvement. People will re-write history and that's their prerogative but I actually remember England pre-Southgate.

Not sure going out to dross under Hodgson and others makes Southgate’s mediocrity any better.

I can't argue logically with someone who thinks losing in a QF is closer than losing in a final on penalties. Abject nonsense.

Southgate isn't a good manager and neither were they.

Would that be the Croatia I remember beating us so we didn't even manage to qualify in 2008?

Then you need to think about who went on to win it and how close England were to beating them.

Germany did better than England vs Spain and went out before England.

Your logic is too simple.

There is for sure but on the flip side he did manage two KO wins against big nations which we hadn't done for decades.
