I reckon you need 6 wins and 7 draws to stay up. Not impossible and teams have done similar before but it doesn't look incredibly likely.

Even without the fact that they’ve hired a manager who’s sides can’t defend for ****, it’s virtually mission impossible given their stats.
Definitely it could change pretty quickly in January.. A couple of wins and everything would look very different, but I have to say I don't see where they'll come from right until we spend money.. We'll see but it's definitely not impossible yet
Yeah the only recent one I can think of with such a turnaround is Leicester in 2015 and that was far later in the season too. I don't think Newcastle have one of those 8 game runs in them though.
January could make a difference but they need to be picking up points constantly from now really. Their next 4 after United are all winnable and they need 6/7+ from them as a minimum I think.
If they got that from those games combined with a good January then I think they'd have a real chance.
They're lucky the league is so poor at the minute as otherwise they'd be completely buried.
No doubt we're poor but there's other poor sides and we have a good amount of money to spend in January. Probably more than a relegation threatened side has ever chucked at it.

Last away league game was 7th Nov ... got southampton and Watford in the next 6 days.
Still got to play away at ... Chelsea, United, City and Liverpool
I chose not to go to the theatre last week, because I didn't want to sit cheek by jowl with 1000 other people, so the idea of going to a stadium with 50k others there is not something I would do either atm
