As much as I mourned the end of the terraces and all seater stadiums, it actually helped to clean the game up and attract families to stadiums.
At least now we're getting a return to safe standing, not before time imo.
The Taylor report and the cash made available to clubs to help transform their stadia was fundamental in the huge change the sport went through in the 90’s.

It was badly needed at the time too. I stood on those old terraces, and some of those grounds were truly ****ing awful.
Along with the way fans were treated by the police, Hillsborough was an accident waiting to happen.

Our entire squad cost less than you paid for Richarlison and we are only 2 points behind you

Massive investment does not guarantee success or in some cases prevent relegation

Who said it guaranteed anything? Not me.

Let’s not pretend that sustained survival and then success doesn’t require investment though.

Well that will come from the fact that we charge a ****in **** load for fans to get in <laugh>

Part of that is always going to be the demographic and geographic variation on living standards and wages etc.

London prices are always going to be higher than the North of England.
Yeh I get that..I mean it's only £5 a pint at Elland Road so they're practically giving it away by London standards.

My generation would all probably prefer to sit down in comfort than stand up behind a goal

You can see more and appreciate more from a side on view that allows you to see both touch lines and goal lines

I do sometimes miss the excitement of seeing the ball hit the back of the net

You are right but you have to invest in the right combination of players

A few clubs can afford to buy thirty players get the right eleven but the rest can't

Obviously before my time but the dosh was largely seen as a way to convert/rebuild stadia early on wasn' it?
The more forward thinking clubs used some of the windfall to help transform their entire stadiums (iirc the cash made available by Govt was a matched contribution or %age of the total invested).

Villa under the much maligned Doug Ellis rebuilt their entire ground whilst keeping the traditional feel, it was a great piece of work by Ellis. Sunderland built the Stadium of Wind off the back of it. We built an out the box single tier stand. [HASHTAG]#levels[/HASHTAG]

I think Levy has spelt it out to Conte already, he's being expected to develop your youth, improve the coaching and fitness. Levy obvs thinks the players that he's shelled out on are good enough for Conte to work with.

If that's the case Conte will walk and the paying fans will go for Levy and the board.
Conte was clearly given assurances regarding the squad and transfer budgets or he'd never have joined us.
He is not passed it or desperate to look like he is still relevant like Maureen so has nothing to lose by walking away.

The board and Levy **** themselves after fan reaction to the United performance.
The reaction to us not signing players and Conte leaving would be extreme.

Our performances have been not just poor in terms of results but boring as ****.
Spurs have lost thousands of memberships (£45 each) and have not been selling out games as a result of fans being pissed off with them (poor football, sacking Pochettino, bringing in both JM and Nuno, the furlough threat, the esl farce, huge ticket prices) so risking more fan unrest makes no sense.

But maybe you're right. January will tell.

Jack Walker would be the original PL financial doper. You could blame him, then maybe Whealan in the lower leagues.

or any chairman in an old school club from start of the game pre FFP who funded transfers without regard to turnover or debt.
yeah, it goes back to the very start of football, work teams riddled with ringers.
Actually it probably pre-dates football, imagine the Romans had something similar going on.
It's all about prestige.

This is the same man that gave assurances that he’d back Poch and the same man that gave assurances to Modric and Kane that they could both leave.

Im not saying he won’t put his hand in his pocket ever again, but he obvs feels the £400m he’s poured into transfers since the new stadium should have some returns.

If that money was spent within the club's means, then there's no problem.

If you invest a **** load of cash to buy your way into it, then for me that is problematic

Blackburn’s CL position wasnt. Nor their title.
