Maybe, but when you have the likes of Sol Campbell - not your favourite bloke I'm sure, not getting more than one interview having applied for a dozen jobs, yet the likes of Lampard, Gerrard, Rooney, Terry, Ole getting relatively prominent positions I doubt being **** or an unknown can be the only reason.

I was going to say being a **** could be the other reason but saw Terry’s name in your other list.

ok fair enough

Understandable ... having played for Arsenal and being a legend to them you'd expect it to actually be Vera ... <whistle>

I think there is an issue of ex black players not being given opportunities to manage compared to ex white players but think Campbell is a poor example and not just cos he is a lying two faced **** head of the highest order.

He did what he did at Spurs, then lied to arsenal and said he wanted to go abroad so they gave him a free transfer only for him to turn up at pompey!
He then demanded all his owed money from pompey when they went into financial meltdown (even though he was richer than god). He then went to Notts County got a huge signing on fee and wage but got out of that and went back to Arsenal. Then he went to Newcastle before retiring.
He managed Macclesfield who were relegated under him and when they went into serious financial trouble he supported them being wound up so he could get his owed wages.
He then managed Southend who were also relegated under him.
He managed a total of 53 games winning just 12.

To put his demands for money from Portsmouth and Macclesfield into perspective... he is personally worth over £45m.

You'd have to be a headcase to trust him to manage your club tbh.

I thought he helped save Macclesfield from being relegated?

Regarding the rest of what you've said, there's some ex-players with terrible characters managing atm.

Btw it's not just Sol. Andy Cole is another good example.

I do agree were scum like Terry, arseholes like Rooney and dross like Barton.

I absolutely think that there are black and mixed race ex players that are never given the chance to manage or coach.

Henry, Andy Cole, Regis, Wright, Bright, Les Ferdinand, Anderson, Palmer, Bisset, Walker, Dublin, Heskey, Rio Ferdinand, Ashley Cole, Sinclair, Jenas, Bent, Wright-phillips...

No idea how many if any would have wanted to be a manager but suggests that there isn't an even playing field.

I wonder if the failure of John Barnes at Celtic and Paul Ince at Blackburn is used as an excuse ... maybe unconsciously?

Edit...you're right re Campbell at Macclesfield...he did keep them up ... he reportedly wanted to take them to Italy in the pre season but they didn't have the money to do so so he quit as they weren't fully behind him <laugh>
