Typical Gooner entitlement right there.

They cried for years about how the 4th place ‘trophy’ wasn’t acceptable under Wenger.

Funny old game.

Not me. I argued till the cows came home on here with Gooners who were moaning about wenger 'only getting top 4'

At the end of the day, as **** as we've been recently. Arsenal is still a massive club with a huge pulling power for players.

If Arsenal seriously went after DCL, then it's a step up for him. Because he would be expected to be part of a team that would get Arsenal back to where they should be, which is a top 4 club.
Why SHOULD be they be top 4?

I don’t think it’s currently a step up for him at all, your manager is way out of his depth and the better looking ‘project’ is Everton imo.

I disagree. Arsenal is a bigger club, so it would always be tempting for a player to come to us.

Time will tell which project bears fruit, if either.

You were wrong then and are still wrong now.
Arsenal totally should have been wanting more than top 4, and Wenger was right to **** off.
The fact that your board have hired a bunch of clowns who have taken the club backwards since then is neither here nor there, and certainly isnt a vindication of the pro-wengerites.

Based on what exactly?

See my response to Bod. A club of Arsenal's stature should be expecting to challenge with the top clubs. Accepting anything less than that would be defeatist imo.

I know we're a long way off of that atm, but that should be the ambition.

Well that kind of confirms my point. Arsenal should be challenging at the top.

Erm what ?

We should be challenging with the top clubs.
You argued with gooners who complained that Arsenal should be doing better than 4th (ie you dont they should be)
Then in the next sentence you said that Arsenal should be competing at the top and anything less is defeatist.
Two totally contradictory sentences.

You’re deluded. If that particular player decided he fancied a move as he wanted to challenge himself at the pinnacle of the game, what’s he going to be looking for? He’s already an England International, money isn’t an issue, so he’d be looking for CL football, you ain’t got that & don’t look any nearer than we do to attaining it.

That’s what I mean, Top 4. Competing with the top clubs

No, a club like Arsenal is always going to have a big pull for players. The test for us now is getting back into the CL.

Ah you've changed it slightly. Initially it was that you should be in the top four not challenging. I agree that it should be your aim but you're miles off if it at the moment.

Well that’s what we should be aiming for. But yeah, no denying that we’re nowhere near it atm

They weren't though, Arsenal were scraping 4th most of the time, barely pipping Spurs to 4th and were regularly 10-20 points behind the league champions.
It would be like me saying Chelsea competed with City last year because we finished 4th, when we were no where near them

I didn’t say you couldn’t attract players, but any PL club can attract decent players these days. However, when you’re talking about an England player who’s already playing in the PL, if they’re looking to move it’s invariably for CL football. That’s how it works.

Towards the end of Wenger’s reign we were. In the first part of it we were winning titles and competing with Man Utd for 1st and 2nd most seasons

Well yeah but people werent complaining about Wenger then <doh>
It was only when the standard dropped off and the pots dried up that people started voicing their discontent.
Yes I know there were some mitigating factors, the new stadium etc, but just saying, people began complaining when the standard dropped
