Its not really that for me tbh although there's deffo a small element of that but its more how fuking boring and **** the football is (from england anyway) that really puts me off.

Pkus i have a fair few big England fans mates who do the saem thing before every tournament.

All kinds of crazyness like its coming home and were gonna win it this time<whistle>

I think if you grew up watching tournaments like Mexico 86, Italia 1990 then you're going to feel that atmosphere. It wasn't even about England either, just all the great international sides/players. Even now when I look at the old footage of those tournaments, with those commentators back then, it's great viewing.

I went to the 2006 WC, saw 3 games - Spain Saudi, Ukraine Switzerland and then the big one Mexico Argentina in Leipzig. Incredible experience, like you say one of the best weeks. The Dutch fans were the brilliant imo.

I think the problem of having so many games on TV has contributed to this lack of excitement. In years gone past you'd get some incredible player absolutely tear it up that hardly any **** had ever heard of.

Nowadays all the stattos already know how many no look passes with one eye closed every player makes per minute.

I'm planning on doing the whole international thing after Qatar in the lead up to Germany 2024.

Was going to say it felt like that with that Senegal team not so long ago, watching them on some **** TV at school but that’s actually nearly two decades ago and now I feel about 80.

You make a good point tbh.

I said similar when the esl was proposed.

Those games are only prestigious when they are few and far between. Having real vs utd every week kills that off within weeks imo.

And also the unknown player factor is a good one. Had not occured to me but its very true what you say, there's no surprises anymore.


Whats you lots views on the wc being played every 2 years instead of 4.?

Agree I had no idea who 90% of the players were as a kid watching Mexico 86. Never seen Maradona play tbh. Same in 1990, never seen Scillachi, Baggio. Then there were the 30 yard screamers and you're just like "fcking hell". Even 2002 had that. It was an eye opener on footballers around the world especially the South Americans, something special about that.

Someone said all this regarding the fa cup around the final (im sure it was @brb actually) that back in the day the fa cup was often the only televised games and so you got a big buzz around them.

Nowadays you can basically watch any game thats being played in a top league at the touch of a few buttons and so of course the fa cup and comps like it have lost that buzz and excitement because were flooded with other football.

Makes complete sense

I used to follow sides like Athletic Bilbao, Sevilla, Valencia. But because I'm not getting La Liga anymore, haven't done properly for about 4/5 years, I've lost touch with the players and teams. Recently it's made me want to get into it again, only because it'll be like discovering new players - often they end up in the prem in a few years. Or at least they used to.

Far too much international football these days, dunno what people get out of it. Some of the football is absolutely ****ing horrific.

Usually its only high goals because one of the teams is absolute jarg and they just roll over without so much of a limp dick being swung

The qualifiers are a waste of time. No drama, no entertainment, England pitted against cannon fodder, and it interrupts league games.

Qualifiers should be like the Chmapions League ones in the summer, a few of the lesser European teams play them to get 4 spots.
