From the very start of the ESL announcement, I have continually rebuked the notion that ALL football fans were horrified at the proposal and needed to come together to save football, when it was obvious that the PL were only interested in self preservation.
From an article I read the PL currently take 93% of the monies and were arguing for more (95%) In response the EFL were hoping that the next deal would perhaps at least ring fence the 7%, and perhaps argue for a little more as they do, along with the FA, have representation at the negotiations. The “rolling over” of the deal doesn’t even secure the 7%. That’s why there is a link between 5 yearly deals, which is why I mentioned it.
I’m certainly not naive about the motives of the PL in general. Without the “break away” 6, the PL value plummets. As you say that moral high ground from the other 14 was all smoke and mirrors.
