If you’re in an obvious offside position and you go chasing after the ball the flag goes up, I think you’re taking the word challenging too literally.
Yes I know that happens but the Law specifically says that it shouldn't
"In situations where a player in an offside position is moving towards the ball with the intention of playing the ball and is fouled before playing or attempting to play the ball, or challenging an opponent for the ball, the foul is penalised as it has occurred before the offside offence"

I've got no interest in who won. I just think the officials got the Laws wrong. You surely don't think VaR is infallible.
I’m not sure the law as worded has been updated for a while. We all know in practice, they come back for the offside. The Pickford/VVD being an example, although the Liverpool mourning their loss and the hate Pickford received was wrong and pathetic by Liverpool, the foul itself is a pen let’s be honest, yet VVD is offside so not given or overruled by the ref/VAR.

But VVD was definitely challenging Pickford for the ball.

Leave us alone y'bullies, we're not playing until later and we might need the VVD excuse then.

Wow you really do think that should have been a pen yesterday don’t you? I just thought you were being pendantic!
I was just surprised that no commentator or pundit even thought it was an issue. Everyone just assumed that because he was in an offside position, then nothing else mattered.
It's not pedantic to expect rules to be applied

I’m sure you’ll be consistent if that happened to Spurs defending :bandit: or you’d no doubt find a way or making it subjective saying the attacker wasn’t going for it. By the way, of course Long was going for it as explained to you further up.
Remember we live in an era now where play carries on and the flag/whistle doesn’t go until the move has played out so the notion that the incident is immediately pulled up is outdated and wrong. The message now is clearly that the offside overrules what else happens. Welcome to 2021 :emoticon-0148-yes:

<laugh> Not looking good for you though is it old man.

We were quite good midweek then yesterday was called off. We’re where we should be with our budget. I wouldn’t be surprised if we did go down but expect there’ll be three teams just about even worse. A good chance of some points deductions for someone along the way too.

I admire your optimism, but it seems that you're relying more on others inadequacies than your strengths. Dodgy times.
